I can say that I wen't 2-3 with a double and probably some stolen base against Blyleven's son in the Arizona League (rookie ball). He did throw a lot of curves...not like his father of course. Bert had one of the nastiest curve balls I've ever seen.

Yeah, I think he was kinda old to be in the Arizona rookie ball league at the time. I think he was 23 or something at the time when I was 19. How old are you btw TBG?

Does Cypress still have a good program? For some reason I really liked the baseball field at Cypress and the scenery around when we visited there on our socal swing back in juco.

the field is top notch, they have very good dedicated staff for groundskeeping.  the program is one of the best in the state.  they play in probably the toughest conference in the state.  they make the playoffs every year and usually make the state final four every 3-4 years.  i think the head coach has been there for 25 years now.

Can you run some names for me for the top juco programs in socal (LA)? I can't remember the name of this one school where I ran into the hardest oak outfield wall ever.

ive only really traveled to orange empire conference games.  although you could possibly be talking about cerritos college??  that's technically in norwalk, but still LA county.

some of the top programs in so cal:  from the OEC - Cypress, Santa Ana (used to be Rancho Santiago), Riverside, Saddleback, Orange Coast

from other conferences: LA harbor, long beach city, Some San Diego schools

nor cal: sac city and fresno city, not sure about anyone else.

YES! Cerritos is is. I feel better now. I slammed into that damn oak wall going after a ball and it knocked the wind out of me. The coach yelled at me to get up as I laid there half dead lol...

Sac City...bunch of pricks. I hated that school.

i think the wall has been green for years, if that rings a bell.  it's one of the nicer stadiums because they have some good seating there for fans rather than  a couple stands of cheap bleachers.  and i think the dugouts are actual dug in tooo.  not sure about the field quality though.

yep, green fence and nice stands.

For that game, the coach said that if anyone swung at a high pitch, he would immediately pulls from the batters box and out of the game.

The same coach threatened to bench us in some other fall ball game if we did not go the opposite way in every at-bat for that game.

did you guys travel through in the early spring, or what time of year was it?  it's interesting how baseball is played all year round in socal.  the CC coaches do a bunch of stuff to get games.  even compete against eachotehr with "club" teams in the offseason.  i probably told the story about duursma getting hit by rob dibble when he travelled through with a group or reds minor leaguers.

We came through in January. Too cold for good ball in Norcal that time of year, but pleasant down there in Socal.

The second year I was at SJCC, the trip was called off due to massive rain there in 93.
