AFC Divisional Playoffs XIX

An old bitter rivalry between the Raiders and Broncos was renewed at Mile High Stadium.

To everybody's surprise, the highly anticipated game was a yawning blowout.

Terrell Davis was injured on the Broncos opening series and the devastating loss of "TD" sucked the life out of the 98 Broncos.

The 76 Raiders defense forced 4 fumbles and harassed John Elway all day. On offense, Kenny "the snake" Stabler produced an efficient and mistake free day.

The Broncos were a drastically different team with backup Derek Loville substituting poorly as running back, and that allowed the violent Raiders defense to focus on John Elway and his passing game.

Two historic dynasties clashed at Candlestick Park to book a trip to the NFC Championship game.

Down 10-3 in the third quarter, Joe Montana found his rhythm and engineered three scoring drives in a 20 point furry. From there, the 89 49ers defense did the rest as they shut down Emmit Smith and limited Troy Aikman. The 92 Cowboys also hurt themselves with a crucial fumble in the third quarter that led to a 49er field goal to put the 49ers up 23-10. The Cowboys were unable to mount a comeback, especially with Charles Haley constantly applying pressure and Ronnie Lott breaking up many passes.

Owner Eddie Debartolo took an opportunity to ridicule Jimmy Johnson's brash words from the 1992 NFC Championship game where he arrogantly predicted an easy victory for the Cowboys and his post game smug remark.  "How do you like them Cowboys now", stated Debartolo to the media with a wink.

The playoff game between the record setting offense of the 2007 Patriots (589 points, 36.8/g) and the record setting 2000 Ravens defense (165 points, 10.3/g) turned out to be a thriller.

With a 3-0 lead in the 4th quarter and after pitching a shutout for 7 straight quarters, it appeared unlikely that Tom Brady would figure out one of the best defenses of all time.

Brady connected with Donte Stallworth to give the 07 Patriots a 7-3 lead with 1:57 remaining in the highly anticipated game. Dilfer failed to answer with 4 straight incompletions. The Patriots took over on downs at the Ravens 18 yardline and scored on another touchdown reception by Stallworth to put the game away.

The 2007 Patriots will now take their perfect 17-game winning streak to Oakland for the AFC Championship. Madden vs Belichick, that should give the media plenty to write about.

In an exciting thriller between the 2009 Saints and the 1990 Giants, Tracy Porter intercepted Phil Simms in the endzone on the game's last play to preserve a 30-28 win for the 09 Saints.

The first half was a shootout with both teams going up and down the field and exchanging leads. The second half turned into a defensive battle with no points scored in the fourth quarter.

Drew Brees found a wide open Robert Meachem in the final seconds of the third quarter. The touchdown strike gave the 09 Saints a 30-28 lead that would turn out to be barely enough.

Bill Parcells mysteriously elected to go for the touchdown rather than kick an easy chip shot field goal for the win on the 90 Giants final drive when they found themselves at the 09 Saints 3 yardline. Bill Parcells did not answer questions to the media, so his bizarre decision remains a mystery.

AFC Championship XIX

The 2007 Patriots kept their season perfect with a convincing 34-17 win over the defending TSB Champions 76 Raiders.

Trailing 2017, John Madden's 76 Raiders failed to get any offense going in the 4th quarter. Meanwhile the record setting offense of the 07 Patriots found their rhythm and scored 14 unanswered points. Tom Brady's precision passes and the speed of Randy Moss was too much for the violent Raiders defense.

The 07 Patriots will now try and become the first 19-0 team ever in the Tecmo Super Bowl XIX.
