Tapping the buttons to run faster?

Received this email, about adding a question to the FAQ:

"How Do I Make the Baserunners Go Faster"?
 
Answer:  While the runner is rounding the bases, continuously hit down on the "A" button -over and over like a jackhammer (to master this may take a bit of time) - Most players - especially faster ones - will noticably increase their speed and are much tougher to throw out on grounders to short or when stealing.

What do y'all think?  I always thought tapping the buttons did nothing, but I've been wrong before...

I've played a lot of RBI games, but have never noticed anyone move faster when I tap the buttons.

yeah it works for sure, but you have to do it really fast or it won't work.  Try a bunt with Gwynn and then hit the buttons really fast.

I'm going to say "no, it doesn't help" but if you want to do that and think it helps then go for it.

This may sound like a stupid question but has anyone ever tried to get ahold of some of the makers of this game?

I would guess that you'd have to be fluent in Japanese to confer with the makers, but that's just a guess

That's rediculous.  Tapping the buttons does nothing to make the runners faster.  The only thing that makes the runners faster while rounding the bases is to hold down B+DIRECTION in order for a smoother rounding of the bases.  Using this technique, the baserunner won't momentarily stop on the base.  He'll simply tag it and continue running without any delay.

if you amatures want to think that pushing buttons makes your players faster, then more power to you...  

as far as i am concerned there are no "turbos" in rbi and that is what makes it great.  last time i checked i didnt see bengie molina speed up all of a sudden as he headed into third notching the first and most likely last triple of his career.

tapping buttons to make them go faster it is all in your heads there are only two buttons and neither is a turbo button

I think that about finalizes this post.  7-1 in favor that tapping does absolutely nothing.  End of discussion.
