RBI Etiquette

I have a question:  

I was playing against a friend who is a little worse than I am but can still play a competitive game of RBI.   Anyway, I had Mike Scott on the hill and he just had everything going, slowballs dropping as late as the 7th inning.

So when he came to bat in the top of the 9th, I was up 2-0, I decided to let him hit and try for the complete game, I thought it was the obvious choice to make.

My opponent however found it very disparaging.  He felt it was disrespectful to him that I did that and that I should get Scott out of there.  Bottom of the 9th, he leads off with a single, I pull Scott out and Doug/Dave Smith gets the save.

The question is, is it disrespectful to go for the CG when you know your pitcher is very tired and you have relievers warm in the pen?

My vote is for no...it is not disrespectful.

When playing 1 SP per game, if you can get away with your starter in there longer than normal, I say go for it.  

If you were dominating him like the score doesn't indicate but could have happened, then wouldn't calling time out and bringing in a juiced up PH be more disrespectful?  Isn't that called "running up the score," arguably the most disrepectful tactic in major sports today?

I agree with Joe and ultimate - you were well within your rights to leave in Scott.  A CG is hard to do, and as long as you weren't verbally taunting him while Scott batted, I don't see any problem with this.  If you were talking smack at the same time, though ("I'm whooping your ass so bad I don't need to take out my pitcher!"), I can understand why he would've taken offense.

I agree with what's already been said, your friend sounds like he was pms'ing or something.  When I play games with my friends, we talk shit and taunt each other the entire time.  I think we do it the most when playing All Star Baseball, and that's when we're on the same team.

if im trailing houston and its the 7th inning, please leave Scott in....hes gonna get rocked very soon....what was this a-hole thinking?  heck in curve pitching, its over when the fresh reliever comes in....you were actually doing him a favor.

I would have absolutely left Scott in AND I would have talked mad shit about pulling a shutout on his ass.

The only disrespect in the game is the fact that he thought he could beat you.

Man, there's nothing wrong with leaving Scott in, unless you WEREN'T talking shit. The guy was getting shut out by the Astros, for chrissakes! If he wants you to bring in a relief pitcher, he should make you do it by going home and getting some skills.

There is no problem with whooping someone's ass 16-0 and talking shit the whole way if they think it's a serious game. Which it seems like this guy did. I do that all the time.

Anyway, here's my take on this important issue... and I thought about this the other day.

I think it is disrespectful, but I would do it anyway.   I did basically the same thing the other day with Krukow.  I had a 3-0 lead, and left Krukow in.  I called my opponent a bitch, and told him if I had any respect for him then I would go to D-Rob.

So my short answer is this... it is disrespectful but there is nothing wrong with it.
