there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

What a fucking loser...  But let me translate this part:

"Gooden was arrested by Tampa police in 2002 on a drunken driving charge, but later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and received a year probation. "

Because Gooden is wealthy and/or famous, he did not get arrested for his previous DUI convictions.  Seriously, do rich people actually plead guilty to DUIs?  They either do this bullshit route or the old "no contest" thing which gets them traffic school or something...

Usually I think of a "no contest" plea as carrying a stiffer penalty than a plain old "guilty" - the Alford plea (no contest) carries no admission of guilt, so you sometimes don't get the leniency that often comes with a guilty plea, because you show less/no remorse.

I always thought that no contest meant that the defendant realized that the evidence was stacked against him so he probably couldn't win, but he wasn't willing to admit his own guilt.

Do we have any Dee-Nee law talkin' guys?
"Thank you Mr. Toilet Bowl..thank you for being cool on the side...you're the only one that understands me."

Man of Steal

A No Contest plea (or Nolo Contendere) is considered the same as a guilty plea, as far as sentencing goes, but that's it.

So basically, if a civil suit or a future criminial case comes up, and you pled No Contest, they can't say you admitted guilt, even though No Contest is submitting yourself to a guilty verdict if the evidence is there.

My buddy got 4 months in jail, 6 months in a "halfway" center, and 18 months probation for his 2nd DUI.

Fuck Johnson County KS.

MR NEW YORK

One of my most fav players of all time. Thats really sad. I cant say anything about him, but you have to grow up brother and make things better. Life is a journey, enjoy while you can Doc.

The OC is saddened by this latest news of our cy young pitcher.  We wish Dwight and his family the best during this difficult time.  and we would like to extend the offer to Mr. Gooden to be a minor league instructor during spring training next year.

No offense of course, but fuck your buddy for continuing to drive drunk.  We need harsher penalties because people don't change with the current system.  I bet he doesn't drive drunk now...

Seems to me there is a difference between driving drunk in the city and driving drunk in the boonies.  Don't get me wrong, I don't drive drunk in either place.  But it seems as though penalties in places like Kansas shouldn't be as harsh as, say, in NYC.  Not that shit won't happen in either scenario, but you are less likely to kill someone in Kansas than you are in the city.

Bonny

Johnson County KS is huge.(KC burbs)

Ive driven drunk MANY times. Not smart, but shit happens when your young, dumb and hitting the bars.

I have 3 buds that have had multiple DUIs. My brother has had 2.

He turned himself in

The picture doesn't look like Doc

From the Article:

He needs to get his life in order," Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella said before Thursday's game against Cleveland. "He's a good young man. He just needs to get his priorities straight.

He was arrested in March and charged with hitting his live-in girlfriend in the face during an argument.
