I see that many of you are from the Chicago area, as is the upcoming RBI tournament. Here's my problem. I'm in Elgin right now, but up until a month ago I've lived in Decatur, IL. Thus, I'm completely lost in the "Chicago area" and have no idea where anything is.

Is there an easy way I can get from Elgin to Brookfield, to the tournament site? I'm hoping there's a Metra station somewhere close. There's one within walking distance from my apartment, which of course doesn't have any trains on Saturdays, but I'm told there's another somewhere in Elgin. When my roommate gets back to Elgin on Friday I'll see what he's doing that weekend, but I doubt he'll have that much time to kill.

So, I'm open to suggestions. Can the Metra get me within walking distance? I can walk a ways too; used to hike every summer heh. Or, is someone who's already going to the tournament near the Elgin area and could swing this way for a donation of gas money, beer, eternal worship, etc. ? rofl~

Edit: Oh ya. My roommate (who also takes RBI waaaay too seriously, much like me and everyone else on this forum heh) and  I are moving to Indianapolis at the end of the year. Especially if I don't make it to the tournament, I'd love to meet some of the "regulars" from the area for a night of absurd beer drinking and RBI playing. ;D We gotta set somethin up ...

I don't frequent Elgin too often, but I would give Metra a call...

Also, I would email Mike Beales smokedubad at aol dot com.  I belive his tourney page has a no outsider rule, but I'm not sure if that is set in stone....

nightwulf

Actually, he sent me an e-mail about the tourney. I guess some of the participants are still not 100% sure that they can attend, and the impression I got from his e-mails is that there's a good chance there'll be a spot open. Hell, he wouldn't have e-mailed me if there wasn't. :)

I'd say that's right...   I figure with 32 people, you are going to have a few cancellations.  Especially since he's been taking entries for over a year.  Hope to see ya there...

I'd really like to be there, but considering that I have no transportation, and my roommate will probably be packing all of his shit that weekend for our move at the end of the year, it's not looking good. It really depends on what he's got going on that weekend, and how long the tournament lasts. I know he'd like to participate too; he's even more into the game than I am.

Whether I can go to the tourney or not, I'd really like to meet some of the "dee-nee crew" before I move tho. I'm "between jobs" heh, and since I'm only in Elgin from the week before Thanksgiving through the end of the year, I don't see much point in finding one until after the move. Ya living off of unemployment bites, and I feel like a sleaze, but I lost my job due to sour grapes and bullshit (long story), and I haven't had more than two consecutive days off of work since July 2000, so this is my vacation heh.

Anyway, I'm here until the end of the year, and my roommate is in Indianapolis each week from Sunday night to Friday night, so I do a whole lot of nothing during the week. Kinda nice that I found this forum while I have hella free time to ROM-hack etc. Hopefully we can get together some time.

nightwulf,

I sent you an e-mail but I might as well stress some things on the post as long as you brought it up.  First off, we've only had one person drop out so far because he has to work.  But with a 32 player tournament, you are bound to have more dropouts which is why we have the reserve list.

We can place you on the reserve list if you can find a way to make it to the tournament.  I would suggest the Hollywood-Brookfield Zoo stop on the Metra line.  It's pretty close to the tournament location and we could have somebody pick you up there.

I'd be all for a night of drinking and RBI after the tournament.

I know it's not a definite thing; I just don't wanna commit even to the "reserve list" tho unless I'm sure I can get there and back.

Looks like the Metra can get me there at all hours of the day and night; my roommate will be back in town tonight tho, so I'll check with him and see if this is gonna work or not.

I should have hung out with nightwulf more (or you know, at least once) when he lived in Elgin.  So what is the current status of nightwulf's living conditions?  You seem to have many plans for moving, last I heard San Antonio might be in the books...

nightwulf was a funny newbie as i far as i can tell from that first post, heh rofl.

The Raiders are a successful organization

Jerks.  I just emailed Beales and asked him who already dropped out of the tourney.  :)
