Well Guys, Ive finally finished it. I spend a big chunk of hours over the past 2/3 days trying to complete my big project of completing 3 roms with all 30 mlb teams, 2003 lineups/roster, and 2003 ratings.  It feels good to finally complete it.

The game(s) will have an official home, as soon as gantry gets my my User/Pass that I misplaced somehow.

It will be at http://league.rbicentral.com/2k3.htm

Thanks for all the input and suggestions.
If nothing else, The new roms will have laid the groundwork for anybody who wants to edit teams in the future, but doesnt know how to edit the graphics, etc.

Here again is the list of the teams on each rom, for more information, go to the website listed.

Nightwolf, I was wondering if you could give me that text readout for each rom I made when you get a chance, Ill be posting ratings for each team on the website.

Also, I would be very interested in people making a "chronicle" or "summary" of a season they may play with a team on a rom, I would like to make the RBI 2k3 site as interactive with user/player input as possible.

If you had the original rom i released a few days ago, this one just has the oakland team colors changed to a darker yellow.

Finally, Have fun, and Enjoy!

All roms attached.

Rom 1 - Ny, Ok, An, Mn, Bo, At, Az, St, Sf, La
Rom 2 - Se, Cw, To, Cv, Tx, Ho, Mt, Ph, Fl, Cn
Rom 3 - Ba, Kc, Tb, Dt, Nm, Co, Pt, Cc, Sd, Mw

Great job!  I sent your user/pass to your yahoo email in your profile.  Let me know if you have problems with it...

Thanks Gantry, the page is up now! I will be adding links and more stuff as soon as I get a chance, I just wanted to get that up before I went to work.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks again

In case you read this before your mail, the page is quite slow to load.  If possible, convert those 100-200k bitmaps into jpg / gif /png files.  If you can't, let me know and I'll conver them for ya...

Page looks great though!

Ok. First. thanks a lot Nightwulf. I have posted a link to the ratings on the page next to each rom download. I also changed the file types like you suggested gantry, so thanks for that.

I was also wondering if you could do me another favor.  It's really hard for me to find other RBI message boards, and I know your page gets alot of traffic, so I thought maybe on your next update you could post a link on your main page and just tell people about it a little bit.

Thanks much

link pic attached.

Added a description and link on the main page update for today, also added you to the Links page and on the rbicentral main page...

Thanks a million guys.  I might start working on a "College" or "Minor League" rom. Maybe after the 2003 CWS in June.

I also had an idea for creating a rom and calling it, "Slamball" or something. Basically, I would take the best 10 hitters from the original rom, and create a rom that had a team full of that player. The pitchers would be named mascots or something, and just give them crappy ratings to throw homer balls over the plate. Its the closest thing I can think of to a "home run derby" version.

What do you guys think?

Slamball (top ten hitters from original game)

clyon,

just wanted to tell you nice job on the ROMs.  I got a chance to play once last night.  I felt that it was about as realistic toward player attributes as it could get!  I was the Dodgers.  Dave Roberts was faster than the normal player.  Fred McGriff (he's my fav since E.D. retired) slammed a homer, and the Yankees hit a bunch of homers against me.  It was actually a challenging game, because the Yanks were so much better than the Dodgers.  Thanks for sharing!

I added a forum for RBI Baseball 2k3.  I have added a section on the board titled "Tampa Bay Challenge".
I would like others to join in and tell us how they did trying to beat all the teams on rom 3 with Tampa Bay.

P.S. For a challenge, save the Mets for your last opponent, so start off against Colorado.

Or start another thread for any other team. Should be fun. No registration required, link is on the RBI2k3 site.

BTW, I know it may seem unfair playing the yankees on rom one, but honestly all the players are under the same ratings system. That just shows how bad things are in baseball with talent.

I just downloaded your roms and they give a fresh attitude towards RBI.  I couldn't help but laugh when Barry Zito faced Rafael Furcal to start off the game.  I know nothing about making roms or any of the stats in it.  However I have some reccomendations for future updates.  Some of these I don't even know if it is possible and if it isn't excuse my ignorance.

1) Is it possible to put all the team on 1 ROM.  I assume it isn't because you probably would have done that if it was possible.  But maybe you could change the RBI engine (?) to expand the amount of playable teams.  I don't know.  But it would be challenging for TB to play the NYY (even against the CPU).

2)  In the 1 game I've played so far (OAK v ATL, I was OAK).  I noticed Zito's curve was non-existant and Muddux was throwing 98 MPH.  In addition Zito's fastball was 83 mph in the 2nd inning.  Maybe you could change the stats of the players to mimic them in real life, IF someone excels at something REALLY GREAT.  For example:  Zito's curve, Schillings curve, maddux's change, foulke's change, Wakefield's change (errr, ummm knuckleball), RJ's fastball, as well as stamina and stuff etc...  If you already did this then nevermind.  Maybe it was just those 2 guys I noticed.

3) All-Star teams from last year.

4)  It would be super solid (yes...super solid) if you could somehow (get these ROMS to be able to be played with the NES controllers.  Is that possible?  Then you could put this up on a tv and play with REAL controllers.  Like a whole NEW RBI game.

That is all I have to offer.  Thanks for the ROMS.  They sure are fun.

Vitb6

Another comment.  Instead of doing minor leaguers or college baseball ROMS (because no one would know the players) I think it would be better to have a best of the best ROM out there.  For example "X" amount of the best teams of the last century.  Like the 1945 "fill in a team here".  Basically the only qualification is that they would have to have won the world series that year and have the best winning percentage during the regular season.  So maybe look back the last 100 years and find out the best winning percentage teams that won the world series and put them in.  BUT only 1 yankee team (or any team from the same city).  That would be very cool.

Gantry

I'll handle some of these:

Quote1) Is it possible to put all the team on 1 ROM.

That's not possible with our current understanding of the ROM, and probably never will be.  What we do now is pretty much alter some of the data that's in there.  Meaning, we cannot add anything new to RBI, just change what's already there.  Since the RBI for the NES has only 10 teams, we're stuck with ten.  If we do more on Family Stadium 87 (Japanese RBI), we might be able to get 12 teams...

Quote4)  It would be super solid (yes...super solid) if you could somehow (get these ROMS to be able to be played with the NES controllers.  Is that possible?  Then you could put this up on a tv and play with REAL controllers.  Like a whole NEW RBI game.

There are hacks to use NES controllers on a PC, but they are very tricky to say the least.  I find a normal Gravis controller to work just fine for RBI, don't know how much better the NES controller will be.  Also, you can burn these roms on a CD-ROM and play on a Dreamcast.  Maybe we'll try this next time you stop over.  I bet Dreamcast plays a little smoother than the PC...

THere is an all-time ROM on my page http://dee-nee.com/rbi/roms/ though I haven't played it yet.  Not sure how the quality compares to cylon's ROMs though.  Perhaps I'll give it a shot...

PS - I tried the Tampa Challenge and didn't get past the first team.  Colorado won 7-6 off Larry Walker's 3rd dinger in the bottom of the 9th...

This is a good thing, right?

I used the ratings from world series baseball 2k3. What I did was get their rating for fastball, added 5 points to get a speed for "Normal", and 8 to get "Fastball".  Most players did not have a very great change up rating. So for sinker they got the rating -5 for sinker/knuckle speed, and if the pitcher did have a high Changeup rating (most had low to none, of the starters and top relivers of coarse) I took off 8-10 points to get a speed. See Trevor Hoffman (San Diego)

Quote3) All-Star teams from last year.
Thats an Idea. But I might wait until mid-year to get this seasons All-Star teams, and include them on a rom I want to make that will be like "home run derby" It will have 8 players making up 8 teams, and Ill add the 2 All star teams, and call it "All_Start_Weekend_2k3" or something to the affect.

Like Gantry said, the best bet is to get the roms burned onto a disk and play them on a dreamcast.

Yep.  Good job.
The hardest part about editing is choosing your format (year, players, attributes) becase there are so many "what ifs".  Then you want to get it to play the same way as RBI, which means you need to tweak the player stats till they feel right.  So doing 3 roms... pain in the ass.

I've made some different roms in the past.  I made the 1991 Pacific Coast League to honor my memories of harassing Tuffy the Toro (Tucson mascot).  And right now I'm using my edited FS87.  It's converted and translated.  I only play it because of the extra 2 teams, otherwise it stinks for 2 player games w/o random errors.

Lemme clean mine up a little more and I'll post them so people can see what the Japanese rom looks like when hacked.  Then in the future I want to make a best alltime team.  More or less, an updated RBI arcade (no Astros though.)

But once again, good work and thanks for sharing.

I have just played RBI2k3 on the Dreamcast (using NesterDC) and it works great!  I definitely prefer playing NES games on the Dreamcast over the PC, even with the TV out on my PC.  While playing the games, I spotted a few more things to touch up:

1)  San Francisco's colors are too light.  The orange in their uniforms is pretty much the same color as the dirt, which makes it tough to bat.  I would recommend you go with the original NES colors.

2)  There are two bench players named Perez on San Fran.  They have the same stats too...

3)  At the end of my game, the newspaper had "American" for San Fran

4)  I think the Scoreboard letters for the teams (like between innings) should be the same case as in the team selection.  Right now every team on the scoreboard is in caps.  So if they are Cc for the chicago cubs, they should be Cc on the scoreboard.

It was a fun time and hopefully the roomies and I will definitely be playing a few two-player games on the Dreamcast.   With  the dreamast controllers and the great emulation job by NesterDC, it's almost like you are actually playing on the NES!

Vitb6

Tree-  At the movie Lipitz told me that you were working on getting it to the dreamcast.  If you got it work I'll be over on Tuesday night to play a couple of games. And Wednesday.  I'm stoked.

nightwulf

Haha! I told you guys that NesterDC rawked. :)

Actually, that's another idea I have for my far-off idea of a ROM editor and repository of edited ROMs ... output to an .ISO file formatted for use with NesterDC, containing all the ROMs you want on the disc. I'll have to see how well that works tho.

The original RBI Baseball was great.  But RBI Baseball 2, in my opinion, is the pinnacle of the series.  Is there any hope of somebody updating this version.

Gantry

Welcome opp...

I don't know of anyone working on RBI2, most of the "regulars" don't play it too often.  I have gotten a few emails on RBI2 though, so it does have some people playing it.  If you are ever interested in making an RBI 2 ROM or page, let me know and I'll hook you up with some website space...
