Fantasy RBI League with online play?

Now that I'm back from vacation, I can focus on some important RBI related issues here. Most importantly, I'd be interested in combining the old Fantasy RBI League with the new capabilities of online play. Some time ago (before I joined Dee-Nee), several of the regulars had a Fantasy RBI League, where you would draft teams based on the RBI rosters, and those games would be played out by the computer, with the results tallied and standings made, etc.

Now that we have the capability to play online, I think it's time to start a Fantasy RBI League, where you would not only draft your own teams, but use those teams to play games against your opponents online. We'd have to set a schedule up, and anyone who joins would have to be committed to playing games and not just flake out after one or two weeks. THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!!!

Also, I think it will be fun to see how people build their line-ups through the draft. Much, much more fun than a Fantasy FB draft, me thinks.

Initial rules:

- The initial plan is for an eight-team league (we can debate going to 10 teams if there is enough interest).
- You must draft your line-up to fill out a full RBI Baseball roster - no more, no less.
- You can only draft two starters and two relievers per pitching staff - no loading up on starters.
- Positions are irrelevant - if you want a team of eight OFs, that's fine.
- Players from All-Star rosters are eligible to be drafted.
- The league will be divided into two divisions of equal teams. Each team will play each other division team twice during the regular season (each team with home field once). The top two teams in each division will advance to the playoffs, which will be Best of Three.
- Games will be played at least on a weekly basis (we can possibly do two games a week if the interest is there). That week's schedule will be posted ahead of time. It will be up to the two opponents to decide a time to play online. If one person is not making themselves available to play, the Commissoner (me) will make the final ruling if a forfeit is in order. Missing two games during the season will lead to automatic ejection from the league. Games can be rescheduled for a future week if both players agree to it.
- The draft will take place once we have our eight players signed up. The draft will take place on this board, on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific time - the person with the No. 1 selection will post their pick, and then the person at No. 2 will have no more than four hours to make their selection. (i.e., if they are "up" at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, they have until 11 a.m. on Friday to choose.)
- If you miss a pick, you will be skipped for the next person in line. You can make your selection at any time after that.
- The draft order will be chosen randomly, and in "snake" format.

So, if you're interested in participating, either respond to this post or send me a PM. Hopefully, this spreads faster than a venereal disease through Paris Hilton's cooter!

This is a great idea and I really wish my computer had the balls to support online rbi.   Sadly, it does not.

I would be interested in a strictly fantasy league where the computer does all the playing.  That was a blast last time.

I don't know how to set up online play, but I'll give it a try.

Worst case scenario, I get dropped.

holy sh1t... this is the coolest idea ive heard in a long time... my friends and I have done fantasy RBI drafts so many times, and then just verbally debated about how it would go down... i am currently in college, and have a solid wireless connection.. ive been playin RBI my whole life and would definitely be in (if its not filled already)... BUT i would need liek a 5 min explanation of where to buy a controller and hook it up, and how to play... if someone is willing to do this for me, i promise you a member who'd never miss a game, and (hopefully) provide some good competition... even if i dont end up involved, GREAT idea, and i hope you guys keep us posted on results and the draft... i dont wanna tip my hand too much, but steve lake or Jose Uribe would definitely be my first round selection..

whoever is running this, ill send u and whoever is involved my e-mail and SN, but id rather not post it just in case some a-hole comes on and grabs my name for marketing BS... sorry, i dont mean to be like overly private with that..

You can't go wrong either way.  Both guys are definitely fantasy team cornerstones.  Best of luck.

Ozzie and others -

The best advice I can give you for playing online is the FAQ that is on the Dee-Nee site: http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml#ONLINE. This pretty well lays out how to set up your computer for online play. Also, go to the Online RBI section of the Forums to look for a listing of people who are up for a game of online RBI - I'd recommend playing a few games online before the league starts to get into the flow. You can purchase a control pad from any gaming store that will work with RBI Baseball - also, a search of the Forums will yield a link to a way to convert an old NES controller to USB (I'm too lazy to look that up right now, though).

I really don't want people who are doing this to flake out on it. Like, don't go through with the draft and then say "Oh yeah, I only have a dial up connection - is that a problem?" Having people drop out is just going to suck the life out of the whole thing.

So, for those of you who are interested in playing but aren't playing online right now, just make sure that you're committed to figuring it out and doing it, OK? And, as an aside, I don't need an e-mail address right now - we'll try to handle most everything through the Dee-Nee Forums. And, one more thing, I as commissioner, reserve the right to refuse entry into the league for whatever reason. Because I can...

I won't be taking part in this, on account of my computer is shit.  However, I do have a question.

Are you going to edit the RBI ROM in accordance with the draft picks, because that is what is looks like.  If so, I pity the poor soul who's getting Spike Owen.  :'(  And '?', so it actually has a question mark.

Is this right?

Where is the "Connect" part.

I know I'm being a hastle.

dvldog, what version of FCEUltra do you have?  That screenshot looks like an old version.  You may want to download a newer version; the network play screen on my copy doesn't look anything like that.

Official FCEUltra Page - the newest release is now 0.98.12; network play as we know it was first supported in 0.98.10, and I'm not sure whether different versions can communicate.

OK, it seems as though we're having a hard time getting enough people signed up for this to get it going. The question is - does it make more sense to just do a straight Fantasy RBI League, where we draft the teams, but I'll just have the computer play the games and post the results? That would allow people who don't/can't play online to participate.

Thoughts?

i'd go for that.... sometimes it's too much trouble to play the games.. time diff. etc...  but you got spunk kid, i admire your effort and hope your original idea does take off for you.

This would be the third season....

Page 3 of this forum has many more threads, if anyone is curious how it went.

Yeah, I had been reading about the old Fantasy League, and that got me thinking of combining that with the online play. But, it looks like we're not going to get the interest in that.

So, I'm official changing it to a straight Fantasy RBI League (call it Season 3 if you would like). After the draft, I'll create the ROMs, set the schedules, and simulate the games. I'll post the results, box scores and highlights after the games on the board. One benefit of the online play is that I believe that other people could watch the games being simulated if I run the game on the server.

So I would actually prefer if anyone who is interested in doing a straight Fantasy League would PM me to let me know they are interested. Once we have enough people, I'll go ahead and get the draft info out there.

I know my opinion dont really matter, but I dont see a point in that kind of league if you cant play for real.I know some people cant play because of the computer they have ,or dial up connection.I know my computer lags like a f***.I all for whatever though ,always up for a challenge. This would be my first curveball game in my 17 years of playing.

This scenario worked really well.  dvldog ran the league.  I think we had 8 teams and everyone involved really enjoyed it.
I'm down.
