We use a sinker with anything but two strikes.  Works pretty well and not too cheap...

I like the 2 strikes rule.

Quote from: clyon81 on 03/06/03, 11:33:12 AMThe thing is sometimes people turn off sound to speed up the connections,

Having sound on or off will have no effect on your game if you're using a computer built in the last 5 years. NESticle syncs CPU cycles via the network connection, but absoultely no part of the sound engine has anything to do with the network. If people are having problems with NESticle running a network game and the sound code simultaneously, they really ought to invest in a little RAM, and maybe a processor over 400MHz.

Christ, I had the old DOS version of NESticle running with sound, fully playable on a 25MHz machine with 12 megs of RAM ...

people who know things that others don't and talk down to those others to make themselves feel all smart and tough... are cool

clyon81

I will admit that I assumed it did, because in playing tecmo it did appear to when people asked others and myself to do it.  If you are right or  not I don't know. Im not a computer nerd, so Ill take your word for it.

AS for the 2 strike rule, it sounds good, if there is no objection maybe we will use it. i would still like to avoid the "Accident" situations like when people didnt mean to throw a 2 stirke slow pitch that results in the end of an inning with potential runs in scoring position. I mean, there really is no way to make up for something like that, is there?

Aye, about as cool as people who take offense and feel they're being "talked down to" whenever someone points anything out to them.

Ok.  You've both made your points.

Everyone please move along, there's nothing to see here . . . move along . . .

Sorry, I didn't realize you were pointing something out to Christ. I thought you were just using His name blasphemously to enhance a pompous statement. Obviously you can see how one could make that mistake. Please accept my apology.

Then, again, it is easy to misinterpret how things are being said when they're said in black-and-white. I take it all back.  :-*

So what's the word on this league?

jcbball86

i like the 2 strike rule

anyway you put it, the league will have problems.  you are playing online with someone who could be across the country, and if something goes wrong, how can you decide on a conclusion?  and, how can the 2nd player be able to sub?  what if the 2nd player wants a sub and keeps saying it in the chat box, but the other player never checks? then what....there has to be a signal, like swing before the pitch comes or something.

clyon81

I would say that the swing when ready rule is good. or I would say that between each inning (only 6) you ask the other player if they would like to sub that inning. They should be responsible for knowing what part of their own order is coming up. we could just do that, AND/OR swing before each batter is ready.  As far as disconnects, keep your eye on the score and inning, so if it's 5-4 mets in the bottom of the 4th with 2 outs, just re-connect, and know that you would now have to play to the 3rd inning.

I think somebody should decided on a vframe rate for playing games. I don't know how it works in tecmo, but a certin number possibly would give the most optimum, lagless game possible.

I would also like snap shots of the game stats during the sceen after the 6th inning, if the game does not need to go to the bottom of the 6th because the last up team is allready ahead, just bunt and get out the 3 at bats. Then snap the stats screen. Since the games are usually 9 innings, it might be hard, so I suggest just saving the state right when the last out is recorded, then you can just reload and snap it.

THe season will start as soon as we get 2 more teams, thanks to all of you who have waited so patiently. As you know we will be posting scores and summaries on this board, so when you get a chance, play some exhibitions, and post some summaries in here.

Thats it for now,

Chet

As far as NESticle is concerned, setting v-frame rate depends on your ping. Divide ping by 1/2 and add two is a general rule-of-thumb for deciding on v-frame rate. Otherwise the game gets laggy and jumpy. So if you have to play at v-11, get your timing down.

Gantry

We are going to do some experimenting with online play tonight, so we'll have more details on the best emu/settings/connection this evening...

Good to get this started!

Gantry

I worked with AndrewMaselli (bro of Gwynn3k) last night to setup online RBI via FCE Ultra.  While we were able to get it going, I had some problems with lag.  And this was cable to DSL, so dialup player will probably SOL in the short-term...

Schneike16

has anyone played online using RockNES?

callmefairf

Okay a few things.

A)  Neticle is the best out there so don't mess with it

B)  The two strike rule is dumb b/c accidents will happen... what is so wrong with strikeouts every now and again?  The pitch where you hold up and press A should be fine.

C)  NightWolf or whoever is right, the sound makes NO difference

D)  If this is a high speed league, then we should play all of our games on vFrame 5.  Playing v11 is just whack.

5)  Have a nice day  ;D
D Thon owns you

Gantry

If Nesticle can play an online game of RBI without lag, then I guess we should go for it.  I personally see a few glitches when playing RBI, though I didn't try changing any settings.  Also, a DOS-based emu can cause problems with certain people (Andrew said he was having problem).  And does Nesticle let you play with a USB joystick?

I'd prefer to find a successor to Nesticle, but if it works the best then lets use it.  Nothing wrong with trying out other emus though...

Schneike16

I use a USB sidewinder to play on NESticle... or used to before I figured out that it's much easier to play TSB using the keyboard.

Schneike16

Sorry to do this, but I'm witdrawing my name from the RBI league. It sounded like fun at first but I'm not really that much of an RBI fan. Plus, if it takes this long to fill eight teams, I don't see the season lasting very long. Sorry, CLyon.

ericdavisfan

I was initially interested in doing the league, but I only have a decent net connection at school where I teach.  I don't know if I'd be able to get aim (I don't even know what that is!!!).  Plus, I don't know all of what is involved in linking up with another player.  I don't know if our firewall would prevent it.  Is there a way to play a test game to put aside any reservations and questions?  I didn't want to take a spot and then find out that I couldn't play.
