I'm experimenting with ChatZilla tonight. If you're using Firefox, give it a spin. I believe you can jump into chat by clicking here.

Ok, fuck that too. Copy and paste that irc:// URL.

This would likely be a much easier way of chatting. No figuring out mIRC, no dealing with that stupid fucking Java applet.

It worked pretty well. It wasn't pretty, but I wasn't expecting it to be, and it did it's job. Good alternative for people using Firefox who can't / don't want to use the Java applet or mIRC.

FYI, for those using mIRC, the %23 screws it up - mIRC expects channels in the form irc://server/channel.

But #%23dee-nee is awesome.

Ok, I've used ChatZilla for a while now, and I'm officially giving it my seal of approval. This is a good alternative for people using Firefox and don't like / can't use the goofy Java applet. Here's a step-by-step:

- Visit http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/chatzilla

- Download and install Chatzilla at the bottom of the page (click "install 0.9.72")

- You may (should) see a "Firefox prevented this site from installing software" bar at the top of the screen. Click "Edit Options..." and click "Allow," then "Close." Now click "install 0.9.72" again on the page.

- Click "Install Now"

- Once installation is finished, close Firefox and restart it.

- From the menubar, choose Tools -> Chatzilla

- This will open a new (Chatzilla) window. From the menubar, choose ChatZilla -> Preferences

- Under the "Identification" section, change "Description" to anything you like, change "Nickname" to whatever your nickname should be (preferrably something close to your forum name), and change "Username" to anything you like.

- Click "Apply" and close the preferences box. Close the whole ChatZilla window as well.

That's it. You're installed and good to go. Now all you'll need to do to join dee-nee chat is to type the following into the location bar of any Firefox window:

irc://irc.everywherechat.com/dee-nee

A new ChatZilla window will open and you (should) connect to the server and automagically join the channel.
