NYY 19 Oak 16   
The all-time great Yankees just refused to lose.  Gehrig and Ruth each had 2 HRs building an early 10-2 lead.  The A's fought back cutting it to 10-9, but the Yanks opened up an 18-10 lead, again the A's fought back to 18-16 in the 8th but that was all they had as the Yankees eliminate the Reds from Postseason contention.  If the Braves beat the Reds, we will see a postseason rematch between the A's and Yanks in the first round.

100 of the 120 non-pitchers hit at least 1 HR (I only counted real HRs not inside the parkers)

77 of the 80 starters hit at least 1 HR (only Chris Brown, Rickey Henderson, and Phil Cavaretta failed)

Game 1  NYY 14 Oak 3 (6 inn)

The Yanks gained a 1-0 series lead in Oakland Colesium scoring 10 in the 4th to break open a 2-2 tie the big hit being a 3-run shot from Ruth after the bottom of the order had hit a bunch of doubles.  The A's offense was pathetic with Bert Campaneris hitting 2 HRs and getting all 3 RBI's.

In a crazy game 2, The A's had a 9-7 lead in the 6th before the Yanks added some runs and led 12-9 going to the 8th where the added 5 more to take a 17-9 lead in the 9th.  The A's scored 11 in the top of the 9th, with a 3 run shot by Sal Bando finally giving them a 20-17 lead, but with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th Mantle and Dimaggio hit back to back HRs to tie.  The Yogi Berra hit a 2B and Dave Winfield singled to left, but Canseco threw to 3rd base where no one was covering and Berra came in to score the series winning run.  NYY 21 Oak 20, so it's the Yanks and the Braves in the World Series.
