according to a couple sources, they dont last long enuf to conclude things.

whats wrong with them....are they run poorly, or the commish has bad ideas?  or are people are just fkn lazy?

I have some very indepth ideas for a league of 8 to 10 people.  salary caps, and yearly drafts as we usher in new talent each season to keep rosters turning over a bit and allowing for owners to draft for thier specific needs.  im curious as to why online leagues get a bad rap.

I think, to eliminate the lag problem, a league using a ROM similar to that of Stock's league would work relatively well.

I'm in if you're buying TBT.

TbT

ok.  im not versed in this stuff...so what makes stocks league/rom better than the others as far as lag is concerned?

Lag mainly causes a problem when it comes to pitching, when the pitcher isn't able to curve it and is more of BP style, lag most likely wouldn't be nearly the problem it is.

Obviously lag will still play some part when it comes to fielding, but when it comes to hitting/pitching it will be mostly eliminated.

TbT

well the plan i had was for a ATG style.  but sounds like lag causes some issues with that style.

regardless, i have a ton of bugs to workout before i even consider going forward with this.  a league with contract lengths, players retiring after so many seasons, and adding in mpre players from arcade teams is creating enuf issues that i keep finding minor discrepencies on how smooth this would work.

i'll work out thew kinks and see where we stand.

Sounds like a ton of work, but I'm sure you'll be able to do it.

A slurve style league wouldn't be too bad, since it would be a bit tougher to take advantage of lag as it would true ATG.

TbT

its all based off some of the things we had set up to do in bastardo's watch league.

the difference is that ive added a few more twists.  The offseasons will feature a couple drafts.  1 for the players in the free agent pool, and also a draft for the players from whatever random arcade teams gets tossed in the mix.

in some cases a few teams will need to be monitored to make sure they will have the cap space and such to make certain moves. in positive though that it'll be easy to conjure up some budgets along the way for teams before the drafts so they know what they can spend.

I think the adding an arcade team or two is a great idea, however, the salary cap and drafting free agents may not work to well.

Why draft free agents (I imagine you're referring to players of whom weren't drafted from the NES version) when they're just going to be worse than the players you already have. There won't be many free agents anyhow, and if there are, it'll be guys like Owen, Santana, and Pedriq.

And I just flat out hate salary caps in general, and I don't know how they would work, if they are to prevent unfair trades, than you could always just have the league vote on trades.

i see what your saying about the free agency period being filled with scrubs as im looking into options to address this.  Heres where contract lenghts come into play.  basicaly 4 of your 5 1-year players become free agents after every season.  theres going to be some decent players in that situation as some teams are going to have to give some talent some short contracts.   There should be some quality bench guys in there, or even some quality minor league squad(4-player/non active) players there to keep for the future.

Another Major factor for the league and free agents would be the players who will be retiring.  some will be scrubs but there will be a few superstars also calling it quits every year.  However before you ever draft a player initially or in FA draft you will always know how many years your gonna get.

This is huge as to what the landscape of the league would look like.  Granted i feel fairly confident that most teams will have a solid team 1-8 batting wise, but you have a few stars retire that year and the free agent market aint so hot then some teams will have guys like heep and tuefel as thier main bench weapons.

the possibilites are endless as it's all subject to the different 8 people drafting and whats happening with retirements and such.

the thing with the salary cap that im trying to accomplish is to make it hard for some teams to load up, via trades.  the main thing im concerned with is the contract years, (which is in concrete) but the cap at the moment is a side thought right now.

im in the process of randomly assigning the player service year totals which i'll post shortly, just to give me an idea of what some of it could look like.

a couple things to keep in mind as you look at this.  the max you can sign a guy for is 4 years.  4 players get 4 year deals, 4 players get 3 year deals, 4 players get 2 years deals, and so on.

another things is that we will have a 4 player minor league squad, of non active roster players.....counts against the cap though.  its basicaly players you could stock pile at a position(like pitcher) or players for depth(infield) with long contracts to give you some insurance for the future.   but with a cap in place it would weaken your team significatly to have a lot of money tied up in guys that dont see the field.

anyways heres some mock retirement years

Boston
1 yr-Barrett/Boggs
2 yr-Rice/Evans
3 yr-Gedman/owen
4 yr-Armas/Stanley
5 yr-Baylor/Sullivan
6 yr-Buckner/Burks
7 yr-Henderson/Hurst
8 yr-Clemens/Shiraldi

1 year from Bogs, and 2 years outta rice and evans is tough to deal with, but the rest of thier big bats will be around for at least the initial max deal.

Cal
1 yr-Jackson/Boone
2 yr-Pettis/Joyner
3 yr-Burelson/Witt
4 yr-decinces/Hendrick
5 yr-Wilfong/Jones
6 yr-Sutton/Corbet
7 yr-Downing/Moore
8 yr-Grich/Schofield

Jackson and Joyner gone after 1 and 2 years is tough.  do you risk drafting reggie mid 1st round or not, knowing he's gone after that year?  but much like Boston, the Cal bench is around for at least the 4 year max deals.

NY
1 yr-Knight/Tuefel
2 yr-Carter/Ojeda
3 yr-Orosco/mcdowell
4 yr-Strawberry/mazzilli
5 yr-Heep/Goden
6 yr-Santana/Johnson
7 yr-Dykstra/Backman
8 yr-Wilson/Hernandez

NY is decent..straw gives someone a 4 year max deal, and gooden/orosco also add some good value here.

also keep in mind that after each season an arcade team's players are added to replace the lost talent.  it'll be a toss up some years as its comparable, and others the talent coming in will greatly oivershadow who retired.  also, theres bound to be some lean years for the pitchers, and also some fat years where a lot of teams have lights out pitching.

as a GM it'l be your job to try and not fuck up things too bad, and always plan for the future.

most. the onyl problem is, you have to get in a reliable server, as a crappy one can lose connection. though, it's not mch of a problem.

yet, i am still only in favor for a straight style game. no curve, but can move on the mound.

...

Go away.

i played with attezo on jnes last night.

the first server was pretty bad, as lag was a premium, but the second server was excellent, with a lag spike here and there, but nothing major.  however, we did play straight pitch so any lag wouldn't have much effect on hitting. i actually beat attez in the last game, but i'm sure he was going easy on me.

gonna use this thread to jot down more thoughts/ideas.  the way it looks for the FA period is like this.....anyways working to address the issues attezz is mentioning.

The FA draft will be players that have expired contracts each year.  Most players i'll assume are gonna give thier scrubs 1 and 2 year deals.  thier superstars are going to get the 3-4 year deals.  So after season 1 the FA pool is gonna be fairly crappy. Id guess there'll be maybe a starter or 2, some valuebale bench guys and probably a couple more guys worth saving for the future on the minor league squad.

But by the end of season 2 and 3 some bona fide good players will show up, and certainly by the end of season 4 its gonna be all the big boys.  after season 4, i believe teams are gonna be overhauled in a major way.  Guys like Mcgwire, Bell, Dawson, and Tudor will all be unleashed on the FA market after season 4.

I also like the idea of trades as well.  player for player and also for draft picks in the FA draft and the arcade team additions.  If cincy is getting added someone may want to try and trade up to get Bucky walters.  he could make a staf much better for 4 years all by himself.
