why not do things simple, TBT?

Ryno has a point... while TBT's ideas are cool, especially for something like a fantasy league, they seem like they're adding a lot of complexity.  I'd wager that most people who are interested in a non-fantasy online league don't care about the teams and players - they just want to play RBI with other people.  Adding all the extra work with roster maintenance seems like it would make people less likely to stick with the league, rather than more likely.

im just going to have to clone myself 5 times, and then joe dirt, attabobble, and me and my 5 clones can have a cool league.

i get what yall are saying.  Some of it counds pretty complex, but for the most part theres just a couple drafts that really shape the teams.  also since id have all the figures in front of me, id would be easy for me to let everyone know what they could or could not do in a draft or salary situtation ahead of time.

Boo to you guys! Boo!   ;)

i've never played RBI online, but i'm wondering...why does lag exist?  there are computer games infinitely sophisticated played on the internet by hundreds more people at a time than RBI...why can they run smoothly and RBI can't?  are the emulators poorly written?

If you get a league running, i have some ideas that did work from mine... and i would join (as would underatednoobie)

I'm going to take your NES controller and jam it so far up your ass that you'll need to learn how to work the 'A' button with your small intestine.

It's not that emulators are poorly-written, but that console software (from that era anyway) wasn't designed for online play. The game software generally polls the controllers sixty times a second. That's fine when it's all physically attached to one console, but difficult to do over the internet.

Games designed with online play in mind have fallbacks and ways to handle small spikes of lag. Games not designed for online play choke at the slightest hitch.

I'm currently busy designing a rom that has fallbacks and ways to handle small spikes of lag.

I'll be back in a few hours.

I played jnes with nomaa...thanks nomaa.

I was not overly impressed with the lag.  I think Anything Goes will be quite a challege.

Gantry--can you get the dee-nee server to work again (ie, can you not turn the lights out at night)?

frequency = pitch

lag = a shitty computer connecting to a good computer.

and don't argue. I know what the fuck i am talking about.

so what your saying is that if a guy has an old clunker of a computer that runbs slow it creates lag? what about high speed internets?  does that have anything to do with it?

not necessarily. with kaillera, it has a lot to do with the server you play on. my friends have computers that run battlefield 2 flawlessly and still get lag playing tecmo bowl.

josephady has no idea what he's talking about.  If the server is a slow machine, you could have some problems, but it's mostly a function of the connection speed - the time it takes data to get from one system to another.  If stuff gets there slow, it'll throw off the game's timing.  NES emulation doesn't take a lot of processing power, and unless you have a 10-year-old computer, your computer speed shouldn't be an issue - I played a game of Tecmo Super bowl over a LAN using NESticle on my old Pentium 133 in college with pretty good results (although it was over the college network, so lag shouldn't have been an issue).

i totally understand where you're coming from, but LAN is much different than network play (with regards to speed).

Agreed, but josephady claimed that the machine speed played a part, yet my machine at the time was incredibly crappy.
