Whatever comes to mind.

RP's are a mystery. I really don't know who the top relievers are. I need to look into this further. Lots of complicated variables involved in determining who the elite RP's are. Grelts was supposed to be one, but he's had a bad year. Same goes with Stanly and Kerfld.

Lemon leading the league in jacks is a surpriser.

Also, the 8th hole and PH's as well as SP-RP's getting a hit really makes a huge difference in tight ball games.

The final playoff spots should come down to the wire. I'm thinking the Legions will come in second and the Chocolate Rain will squeeze into third.
In the Gantry division, it appears to be a toss up for the third spot. I have no idea but can say that the OC will be at least one of the teams. The Cutlers are a mystery and the BadAsses are in a 3 game skid. Nothing is given in this league...any given Sunday.

Here is the remainder of the schedule...

Well, looks like my season is effectively over.

Some reflections:

I felt like I had a lot of good pieces on the team, but they never seemed to get in sync and produce.  Hrbek was a major bust, and Maldonado will most likely not receive a contract extension for next season.  Wade Boggs played well as a role player, and provided great value considering his draft spot.  Bell and Leonard may get BJs from the GM.  Without them, this team would have been PBR and absolute turd pie.

The bullpen did decent enough but the starting pitching was a joke.  This was my first foray into fantasy RBI (and the first time I've EVER used watch mode) and I didn't know how pitcher skills would translate.  Choosing my pitchers was a crapshoot, and one that I lost.  I don't know that I'd call Clemens a bust...  he did ok, but I had high hopes for the above average endurance fireballer.  I would spit in Doyle Alexander's face if I saw him on the street.  What a joke.  Witt wasn't much to write home about but I have no regrets about bringing him on.

The Alliance got 10 runned way too many times, and in a few games the offense never even had a chance to get going.  Other than batting average, I feel like the stats don't reflect a lot of the Rebel batters' plate skills because they had so few plate appearances.

I feel like I've learned a lot, and I'm already excited for the next season.

You overestimated in a lot of areas. Clearly your rookiness shined.

Hrbek has good enough numbers and maybe you are expecting too much out of him, but the guys who are killing you this year =
Mldndo  0.394
Whitkr 0.313
Sntago 0.382

Sntago has the least amount of production from the 8 hole in the entire league and Whitkr has simply had an atrocious year.

Also you thinking that pitching made no difference was foolish...you seem to have something against QB's=P's lol

Offensive line WHAT?

If I can't get wins against PBR, I'll be really tempted to put in my 4 bench guys instead of McGwire and company

I should say that Mike and Nacho have done a great yin-yang job working together in putting the best team out there and how they made changes together. Two brains is sometimes needed in this league. They would be lost without each other on their own in this league lol

The Unholy Legions have won three in a row and I expect to see a shootout when they play the Cutlers tomorrow in week 17.

Chocolate Rain-Artichoke game is a biggie. And the OC-Sally Cunt game should be a battle. If the BadAsses don't take care of business against the Blue Ribbons, it may cost them. The Blue Ribbons might get more dangerous as the spoilers now.

I full expect to complete the sweep over the Alliance. The Alliance is too inconsistent and I'm expecting my line-up to torch Clemns. If Bell does his thing, then that's fine. But if Candy, Whittaker, and Santiago decide to have big days, things may get tough.
We match up well with the Alliance and we are expecting a good game out of them.

My players really want that bye. Go Cutlers!

First of all, a pitcher has all the time in the world to do whatever he needs to do...  and if he's good enough the defense behind him doesn't make too big of a difference (unless they're completely incompetent).  The closest player who would make an impact is the catcher calling the pitches, but I don't often see pitchers getting shelled because of poor pitch choice.  The comparison there is totally different...

And I never said that pitchers don't matter.  In the fantasy MLB sense I've said that I hate SP's because I can't predict their performances well, so I've punted on those W and K categories plenty.  I would have loved to have had the knowledge to pick and elite staff for my team, but like I said:

Pitcher performance is way different between watch mode and player v comp or player v player mode.  When I draft an RBI team to play (not to watch) I usually take a pitcher in the first round.  Had I taken the best 2 pitchers (Gooden and Ryan) with my first 2 picks my team would be even worse, because their superior numbers don't translate in watch mode.  Rookie mistake?  Rookie yes, mistake no.  I knew I wouldn't gauge the pitching right so I avoided wasting high pick on it.

I agree that Hrbeck didn't kill the team, but he also didn't play near well enough to justify his mid-2nd round pick.  He's got sick power and good contact (and is a lefty to boot) so I don't know why he's had a bit of a rough time, but he has.  I also mentioned Maldonado as a disappointment (also good numbers that failed to produce) and Whittaker was spared because I didn't expect much from him at all.

I hoped for a little more from Santiago but didn't expect much.  I also took him very late and he was one of the last 2 or 3 starting catchers selected.  Did he suck?  Sure, but he wasn't supposed to carry the team like high round picks Hrbeck and Maldonado.

I expected Leonard/Bell/Hrbeck/Maldonado to be a nasty middle of the order to work with, but only Bell and Leonard produced as expected.

anyone ever notice that if you drop a deuce on someones windshield in sub-freezing temperatures, its pretty damn hard to get off once it freezes.

I see Re-Peat. I don't get Candy Maldonado having such a bad year. He has good contact and power ratings. Strange. I think Hrbck is doing what he is supposed to be doing. He has slightly above average contact (15) and his power is 894. Guys with his 'ballpark' contact and power ratings have similar numbers. Is he second rounder material? If you drafted him strictly on power, then yes. He should place top 20 for HR's. The other stuff is up to philosophical debate whether he is a second rounder,  borderline, or third rounder.

Hrbck was the 13th pick of the draft.

Here are the players that came after him in the second round:

- Tom Brookens IF
- Tim Raines OF
- Kirk Gibson OF
- Ellis Burks OF
- Tom Brunansky OF
- Will Clark IF
- Mike Schmidt IF

I definitely was looking for the best bat in the IF for this pick, I didn't care about speed here, nor did I want another OF (because you need 4 IF and I think talent goes deeper at OF).  That's why I didn't go with Brookens, Raines, Gibson, Burks or Bruno.

That leaves Hrbeck, Clark, and Schmidt as valid choices.  Kent has better power and contact than Schmidt so that choice was easy, Will Clark was considered for his lower contact, but I went with the higher power from the left side of the plate instead.

In retrospect I feel OK about the pick but I do think I expected better numbers out of him...  Looking at the stats from the first half (the ones I have at hand at the moment) Hrbeck was batting .524 with 3 HR...  Schmidt was batting .567 with 10 HR.

I don't fucking know.  I feel like I'm putting way too much time, emotion, and overall cosmic energy into this league.

and they made the last three outs of the game...SWEEP WHAT! Morris deal'd on ya and I don't think you scored more than 10 runs on me in the three games that the Empire played Empire ball. OSmith has just won a starting job. I love his speed. Perfect role player. I love them speedsters causing havoc. Barret did his job for the year, and we're pleased with the production he gave us. Barret is the ultimate team player. And my Gibson can smell a championship. We're putting it all together at the right time. Our program has a high standard and we are looking to elevate those standards each second in the now.

The OC-Sally Cunt game is going to take a long time to score. What a shootout.

PBR looked like PBR...

Chocolate Rain-Artichokes game was epic

Unholy Legions-Cutlers game...the stars came out for that one
