I have the batters done, so I'm posting it here for people to mess around with.  I'm working on the pitchers (or any errors in batting).  When I have a chance, I'll write some code to dump the rosters into a text file, but for now, you'll have to play it to see them...

This is still just a beta, but I figured I've been blabbing about this for a while, I might as well show some progress.

just in a brief play, i don't have much in terms of playability.  i do have a couple roster issues (don't know if you might be handling that later:

in my opinion, the angels lineup should look like this as it stands today (imo):

I believe that's pretty much the depth chart as it stands today.  Seattle Note: Figgins is with Seattle now and figures to bat 1st or 2nd there. I would list "Ichiro" as such in the game and not Suzuki.  Vladi won't be on the Angels this year and I would assume that they trade Rivera or Matthews before the season starts (preferably Matthews--big contract).

The team depth charts are somewhat useful, although they're not always up to date or accurate.  For example, I believe that angels played mathis more than napoli down the stretch last year and I KNOW that ervin santana is not the ace going into spring training.  He was barely used out of the bullpen in the playoffs.  Also, it says it was updated today and they don't list Matsui yet.)

Thanks for the feedback.  I am going to fix rosters later after some of these trades are updated and I get the pitchers rated.  I use rototimes which seems to be one of the sites that actually had updated, as I saw really recent transactions being reflected there.  I'll use your angels recommendations when I redo them.  They are much appreciated.

I do plan on relying on team specific feedback from the fans, as I can do my best guess, but since I can't really follow all 30 teams on a super detailed level, some of the non-marquee players are simply a guess, or a straight pull from a website, which as you said can be flaky.

Also, for bench starters, I took the guys not in the frequent rotation and let them in ordered by number of HR.

I'd also like to reiterate that rating pitchers is a fucking bitch.

I think it's pointless right now to try and keep up with all the moves going on right now...perhaps I'll wait a bit on the pitchers...

If we have any volunteers when things settle down, I could use a guru to help me come up with the starting lineups for the rotation...

I'm rating the game with

SP1, SP2, Relief, Closer

If anyone is interested, let me know.  Otherwise, I'm going to look at ERA/K9 and guess...

Twins: Baker, Slowey, Neshek (you could use Rauch if you don't like that Neshek sat out all last year, but Neshek was their 8th inning guy in '07-'08 and would be a sidearmer, which is always cool), Nathan.

I will try and come up with some decent ratings, but I also am not wonderful at pitcher ratings.

You know...here's  a thought...over at Knobbe (the tecmo community) we had a community editor that would allow everyone who had been given access to go in and change ratings.  It was a community effort to come up with one really good ROM that would be the Knobbe official ROM.  Would anyone be interested in something like that here for RBI?

I think for it to work it'd require us to all be on the same page as far as a baseline for ratings, and it would only work if people could keep disputes to a minimum.  Hell, I could even put in a lock feature where if it gets out of hand, I could just lock the ratings and only myself (or someone else) would be able to edit them.

I'd be willing to write something up.  This way, we could have a nice ROM that is a living thing, meaning as soon as an update came through, we could change it and people would be able to download a new version anytime it changes.

What do you guys think?

Well, I rate my roms to basically have the top 8 with the next 4 guys with the highest HR filling in the bench.  If we did a community ROM I'd be open to discussion.  Soon as I finish it (hopefully by holidays end) we can see who's interested and just get an email session going to talk about some stuff.  I have a pretty good set of formulas for batting that works out to be good and consistent across the board.

The pitchers ratings are a whole new set of monsters.  In summary, let's chat about it soon...

Excellent...it'll be a constantly living thing, so you can hop in and help closer to Spring, or you can help now. Doesn't matter...I just think this is a nice service to do for the community and having a few volunteers might make it an even better ROM...
