It has been mentioned by a few recently that we should do an online tournament.  I don't have a lot of experience running one for RBI Baseball, but if we are only playing for fame without the fortune, who gives a rip?

I guess if we're gonna do this, we should first find out who's interested and play a few games online to test connections of people with Nestopia.  If it all works, we can try and get a minimum of 4 people and talk logistics.  If we do this successfully, perhaps we could make it a regular thing and that would eventually bring more people to dee-nee and to the game itself.  If not, then we have a little fun with it with 4 guys, and I'd call that a success as well.

I can't believe I'm embarking on another project with my daughter due in the next week...oh well, we're NOT holding the tournament next week, so let's see what kind of interest this thing garners...

So, if you think you might be interested, post here and we can start coordinating a few test runs.  When I get back home today, I'll post the necessary files you'll need.

Files Needed (downloads below)
------------------
Nestopia 1.40 with P2P client

Hamachi - For P2P online play, you need to have one guy host, and one guy connect to that host.  The problem is some people have a hard time getting their router setup to be the host.  For those situations, people use hamachi to help bypass that.  You basically run the program and it gives you each a public address and you connect using that...

If any of this sounds difficult, I promise it's not.  I've seen some of the dumbest motherfuckers on Earth get rolling in minutes, and I'd be glad to help.

Interested parties:
Turd - verified connection
SuckerPunch - verified connection, can host
Duane - verified connection, can host
Attezz - verified connection, hosting not verified

Im interested.  No clue how to play online though.

Turd

Well, that's step one, get people setup and try a few games, see if it's feasible. For me, it is, but I will let you guys decide if you like it, as I know nestopia is new to the community. I'll help each of you get setup. If you have aim, leave your screenname so I can get hold of you easier. Otherwise, well have to do it via PM or Dee-née chat.

count me in.no experience how to play online tho,do have nestipoa.is this going to be ATG?

Haven't thought of the style yet. Well chat logistics when we get people setup.

bigbrothermuscle

Count me in too dude. Just let me know how it works and I'll figure out the rest.

Re-Peat

I'd give it a shot.

I also think MRTSB's rules are pretty good for the online play...

-1 SP per game
-Must start the SP
-Anything goes beyond that

Anything goes is the best because you don't have to worry about enforcing straight pitch or slurve.

anyone ever notice that if you drop a deuce on someones windshield in sub-freezing temperatures, its pretty damn hard to get off once it freezes.

Turd

I actually like slurve myself. Nothing to enforce, really. It's a gentlemens honor system. Or, we could record the games if it got to
that point. Def think 1SP per game, maybe a best of 3 series or somehing. All depends on how many we get. Well sort that out later with a vote or something. Let's just get people setup
first.

It's fantasy baseball, and it has keepers...  I don't know how.

I'm in.

Although I absolutely hate the above rule.

Turd

I actually like that rule, makes it a little more like real life...you'd never start the closer first...I know, RBI is not real life...I just like a little authenticity anyways.  Either way, this is just a casual tournament, so we'll see what the people want...just trying to breathe a little life into the RBI scene...

Attezz

Lou Pinella has started relievers before.

Turd

Heh, ok man, I hear ya...we'll vote on it. If people don't care, then we'll roll with it.  Just wanna have a little fun...

Downloads are in the top post...I'll be in dee-nee chat for the next hour or two (until my son wakes up) if any of you want to try and get setup...

What are you talking about?

Nacho's abysmal attempt at setting up a fantasy baseball keeper league (with no rules for how to keep players).  It's in the Fantasy board.

Ahh, well I've run several successful tecmo leagues...and there will be rules.  My leagues usually involve a lot of input on rules from the players (they're the ones who are playing, right?) so I figured I'd wait to see who could play first.  Also, let's not forget I want this to be casual for the first one.

meat

i agree with the must start SP.when we play rbi 94,we had a 1 player trade allowed.most of the time it would be a weak hitti g catcher for a mike pizza or chris holes(baltimore catcher in the early 90's)

Sweet, getting some good interest. Now I jus have to see some of you to get you setup. I'll be on to ight sometime around 10 CST or so.

Turd

Also, if any of you have run a successful tourney before and want to co-run it, LMK.
