if we're going to juice anything, i think it should be the defense and keep the scores down.  the computer defense is the WORST.

ryno

more speed, MORE defense.

faster / smarter defenders would be great.

Turd

Faster generally takes care of smarter.  And this is a hack that's already written...

Nacho

I disagree with jacking up speeds.  Wouldn't mind jacking up stolen base attempts, though.

Agreed with Nacho.  That, of course, is the code that we don't know how to change.  I'd guess once it's found, it'd be easy to change (I'm sure it just compares the runner's speed to a predetermined cutoff point, which is currently either 145 or 146 - we'd just need to change the cutoff), but we don't know where that lives in the ROM.

Darky

The cutoff point is 144, and the only players who can attempt stolen bases are Colman
Lopes, Raines, and OSmith.

I was under the impression that if I juiced Dykstra for instance, from 142 to 144, that he'd automatically attempt to steal second base in watch mode. Am I wrong? Or is this some hack that has to be tampered with in order to make this happen? If this is the case, this discussion is officially over with.

I'm working on the stats right now, it's taking time. Hopefully it'll be done by the end of the dee nee day.

You can't juice one player, you can only edit his speed attribute, making him get on base mote often as well. This would need a custom hack to change the cutoff.

Well, I meant edit his speed attribute to the 144 cut off point. So if his speed attribute was edited up to 146 for example, then he'll just be faster as I understand it and not be able to attempt stolen bases unless a custom hack was done. I get it now. I assumed that he would automatically steal the base due to there being some universal code in the ROM for that threshold point and activator.

I'm going to test this out myself to see if this is empirical.

Confirmed. I just did a test ROM and set the speed attributes for the entire Angels team to 148. Nobody stole any bases after a few test runs.

This surprises me - I assumed that it was simply a comparison of the speed attribute to some cutoff point, not a per-player setting.

I'd still almost bet the farm that it's still not a per-player thing...I'll see what I can find...

if there is some "base stealing" attribute that is turned off or on, then it makes me wonder about the fabled "ground ball" attribute on the old rbi manager editor.  although i believe that was addressed in some other thread, i wonder if we really know the whole story.

i guess when jstout gets the whole thing decoded we'll know pretty much everything??

Yeah, well know the answer to any question you can think of regarding the
game.

The "ground ball attribute" is actually half of the power rating.  Its value is either 2 or 3, and that number is multiplied by 256 and added to the other half of the power rating.

Turd

Yep, that is the whole story. Basicaly when you give this fabled GBA a 2, it was lowering their power by 256, providing the illusion of ground balls due to low power.

If this is in fact what RBIM does, then I'd say it's useless, as it would be mangling what you thought you entered for power.

BeefMaster

That is what RBIM does, although it uses a slider for the second byte, so you can't, for example, enter 850 for power and end up with something ridiculous - you just move the slider to roughly the right point.  Of course, the slider is also a problem, as even the most powerful guys in the original ROM only have power about halfway up the slider.

Tecmoturd has accepted the vacant spot left open by the Unholy Legions of Doom and the Galactic Senate has approved of his ownership and entry into the prestigious FRBI League.

The rookie owner will be placed in the Dove RBI Division along with the Galactic Empire, the Fighting Artichokes, the Rebel Alliance, and the Poopydicks.

In an interview earlier today, owner and president of baseball operations for the new franchise, TecmoTurd declared that they were down to two names for the new team.  The choices are between "The Wheat Farts," and the "Baseketball" inspired "Milwaukee Beers."  More to comment later.

Turd

Also, the contract between FRBI Board of Directors and TecmoTurd states that there is one condition of acceptance into the league, and that is that other owners will be required to poke fun at Turd's lack of original game knowledge.
