RBI Replay Project

Since my 2011 ROM is pretty complete, I'm thinking of starting a Brewers replay project.  Using the batting orders on this site:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIL/2011-batting-orders.shtml

I'm going to replay each game of the season on my juiced 2011 ROM, keeping basic individual stats for each player.  I have it setup so I mark down what happened on each AB and import that into my website.  That way I have a log of all the stats from my season.

It might sound like an easy task to beat the computer in RBI, but I've made a few adjustments and have a few minor rules.

1.) Juiced ROM - this is the biggest key, it really  makes the game tough
2.) Pitcher cannot move on the mound, so they rely strictly on their curve to pitch to bad contact.  This makes the computer more apt to hit the ball, and any at-bat could be a HR, so it's more suspenseful.
3.) Pitcher cannot be subbed out after a pitch is thrown that inning, so you'll have to be aware of your pitch count if you don't want to throw beach balls.
4.) If you're ahead in the 9th inning, you must bring in your closer.  This way, if it goes into extra innings, you risk not having anyone left when your pitchers get tired.
5.) SP stamina decreased by 5 or 10 (not sure yet).

I started just doing a few one-off games like this for fun, and I enjoyed it.  So, once I started seeing that taking individual stats during a game didn't get in the way of playing the game (mostly I'm able to write it down while the ball is still in play), I thought it might be fun to see how my players do over a 162 game season, along with how good my overall record is.

We'll see if I actually finish it...

If anyone else has done anything like this, let me know, or if anyone wants to, I'll give you a spot on rbibaseball.us to host your season...

Gonna post here for now, website isn't ready yet. Went 1-1 at the Great American Ballpark. Almost lost first one but pulled ahead 6-5. Second one, Marcum got ticketed for 5 HR and got gassed early. Lost 9-1.

This is incredibly ambitious/insane, and I am looking forward to seeing the results.

Heh, yeah. Well see how far I get. I have the ROMs setup and put on my NES powerpak up to game 13. Pitchers don't matter much because I don't move them on the mound, unless curve is really high or low.

I basically have all the available players rated for the brewers and I just paste the lineups and my editor reads the plain text, so that part is easy.

To be clear, I'm not doing the other teams lineups or rotations, they are default. Brewers are the only ones who are set appropriately. It's cool cause it makes every game different with the different lineups. I'm interested to see what kinds of stats/wins/losses I get.

Shooty

Sounds cool.

Are you considering ever making one of your juiced ROMs into an actual cart?  I hate playing on the computer but would play the shit out of an actual cart with a challenging CPU opponent.

Turd

Actually, I have a powerpak, so I can just put these ROMs on a flash card and play it on the console on the TV in my living room....

If you compare it to getting a cart from nesreproductions.com, I have it paid for in 5 ROMs...mine was on sale at Christmas...

BeefMaster

Where do you get the powerpak from?  This interests me...

Someone PM'd me and asked how I was doing this...

I make a ROM for every game they play using the as played lineup page on baseball reference (provided in the top post). When I'm done, I'll have 162 ROMs that I've made.

Each game I name in the format Game # - vs. Opposing Team Name.

Ex:
1 - vs At.nes
2 - vs CC.nes

I put the Brewer's starting lineup along with some pinch hitters, and the Brewer's starting pitcher for that game on the ROM.  I keep the same RPs, Loe and Axford on every ROM.  I also set the uniform colors to home or away as appropriate, just to give it that extra touch.  My uniform hack doesn't work in 1P mode because the man player is always the away team, so I just manually set it.

Then I play the game with my excel spreadsheet nearby, and log my game.  When I'm done, I copy and paste that into a little website I wrote and it automatically tallies the stats over the course of the season.

I'm insane.

Someone PM'd me, and I responded to them via PM.

Turd

Attezz posted in my thread and I still consider him a douche.

Attezz

Glad we got that cleared up.

Turd

I would like to add Lance Berkman to my rom what would you put for his Contact / Power / Speed?

Thanks for your help

Luke

Turd

Berkmn - 24 contact, 810 power, 123 speed...something like that...

lrod4

Thanks for the info.

Do you know if there will be a ROM available with Berkman on the Cardinals??

I tried to update the 30 team rom with the RBI30editor but it makes an invalid rom.  Can you help??

Thanks

Luke

Turd

I'll add him later tonight if I have time.

lrod4

That would be great

Thanks for your help.
