For $8 shipped, can I go wrong?  Processor tech ain't my bag, but 1.6Ghz to 2.2 and doubling of the cache, can't hurt right?  1/10th the price of a memory upgrade.  CPU % often over 60 when keeping top running, and a disturbing time over 95%

May be talking out my ass here, but if there a faster CPU which is clearly taxed - then the httpd processes will process faster, less overall httpd processes at once, therefor less RAM usage.  Yes or no?

Went sniffing through the apache log directory and noticed the old RBI wiki was still running and getting a TON of hits, maybe as many as the forums.  It's all bots/spammers, so I disabled the wiki and restarted apache.  If the file size of the access logs mean anything, we may have just cut down a pretty sizable chunk of traffic.  Guess we'll find out...

That's a Socket 754 processor ... I thought yours was a Socket AM2? It's not clear from /proc/cpuinfo, but info from the Wikipedia leads me to believe it's AM2 and not compatible.

If I'm incorrect, then I'd jump on it. It's a really marginal upgrade, but $8 is a really marginal price.

Wiki says they made Sempron 3000+ with AM2 & 754 and the cache amount in /proc/cpuinfo, so I'm not positive.   I'll check out the mobo when I get to work tomorrow.

The Socket 754 were the "Mobile Sempron 3000+" CPUs. I don't know if cpuinfo differentiates between the two.

Edit: Actually, none of the CPU speeds in the 754 3000+ CPUs match the CPU speed reported by cpuinfo.

They ain't going anywhere, so I'll find out what mobo I have and not fuck it up.  I know lots of people bought the mobile AMD chips for their homebuilt PCs because of lower power demands back then, but fuck if I remember for myself.

Actually, only seeing two 1.6 GHz Semprons with 256K cache; both are from the "Manila" line, and both AM2.

Things still smooth sailing, 1.3GB of free RAM.  Looks like an unused, spam-ridden wiki from years ago is way more popular than these here forums.  Makes sense...
