8 Year Hiatus

Well, it's nice to see these forums are still alive.

I want to get back into playing some RBI Baseball Online. Me and my buddy MrOrangeJuice21 ran some leagues in 2005 and we had a ton of fun. We were talking about it the other day, and we are going to try again I think. We always made custom player attributes of current players and did a league draft, so that's probably what we would do again. We have a group of players that would come along with us also.

How are the servers for playing online these days? They weren't so hot back when we played. Also, I'm currently in Afghanistan, do you think my location will make it unplayable?

Welcome back. There's an original ROM league going on now, and I've run some updated rom leagues in the past. Check out http://rbibaseball.us for info on past leagues, uploading game stats, and my yearly 30-team rom.

Running RBI leagues is really difficult because there aren't a lot of online players anymore, but with nestopia1.39,  the gameplay is really smooth, almost console quality, and doesn't require a server.

I have ideas sitting in the hopper for a progression league with minor leagues, variable stats based on streakiness/risk/potential ratings that change every game, but given how difficult it is to get through even a basic league, I fear it'll never happen.

Being in Afghanistan might be a connection issue, no idea how much that would affect it, you'd just have to try it.

We were always a fan of bringing the current players and doing fantasy drafts.
Our last leagues we even required video taping of the games and then we quickly rewatch the games and record stats for all players (era, batting average, rbi, stolen bases, ect.)

The hardest part was always getting enough dedicated players, but I'm confident between me and my buddy we could bring in at least 6 or 8 family and friends by ourselves. Then if anyone on the site is interested, that's great.

Were probably a few weeks out from starting something up though either way. Great to here that servers aren't required. Hopefully nestopia1.39 is what its cut out to be.

Nestopia is the way to go. Thousands of tecmo league games have been played on it, and for most people it's console quality.

Meanwhile I have a project on the burner that reads the game as you're playing it and records individual stats. I haven't had tme to implement it yet but I have all the rom locations.

Still, my site should suffice until that comes out.

Nice to see you 2 return. I was a little disappointed when the league disbanded quickly. I don't recall the reason, but maybe because school was starting. Not sure honestly. I'm glad some hard core fans are coming back. Turd has all sorts of goodies. He has a stat extractor which is a nice addition to the RBI World. See you guys around I'm sure. If a league opening becomes available I'll hit you guys up. Take it easy guys.

Thanks MRRBI . Good to see all the familiar faces. I wasn't here long, but still have some good memories hangin around the forums and playing my favorite game.

We had a lot of fun with our league, but I can't recall why we quit either. I know a few players were frustrated with the quality of the games (lag), so I think that played a factor. Either way, as long as I get my laptop I ordered out here, I'll be trying to play some games. It it runs good enough for me, me and MrOJ will be doing it again.

I'll have to check out this stat extractor thing. It's a lot more fun when you can track stats for the league. Not just team stats, but individual stats especially.

Individual stats are not possible right now.  The game doesn't support it, and my play-by-play extractor hasn't been started yet, so it'd just be team stats for now.  Check out rbibaseball.us, it's still fun to track your career/"world rankings"
