Bought it, played it, loved it.
Same here and I think it's much better than last year's offering.
I've played 9 season games (Twins are 5-4 ) and had one weird issue where I had to give up both of my base runners in a triple play in order to get the game to continue, but it's been smooth sailing and a lot of fun otherwise

BeefMaster

Any gameplay differences from last year, or basically just the same thing?

YES

Modern controls where you can use the different buttons to chose the base or classic where you choose base using one button plus direction.

Not sure if you can dive or not, seems to handle that automatically.

Turd

No unlockables everything is available at the start.

Turd

Oh, and the ballparks look fantastic.

I never even played '14 because I didn't really have a system to play it on. Fortunately, my girlfriend's parents got us an Xbox One "for the kids" for Christmas, so I'll probably be picking up '15 today.

Diving was automatic in the other one, so that makes sense.

I would ordinarily object to the one-button throws, as a purist, but it makes a lot of sense in this case, because they enabled free player movement rather than pushing a button to run to a base.  Because of that, if you didn't hit the joystick and button at the exact same time, you'd actually run away from the infield momentarily when you made a throw from the outfield into second base, which just looked and felt weird.

Did they add the ability to cut off throws?  That was SORELY missed from last year's version - accidentally throw home, and you give the runners a free base.  In the original, you could position a fielder to cut off throws, particularly to home.  It's not AS big a deal with the one-button throws, but it might still be handy.

I don't know about the cuoff, I'll look.

Anyone who bought it, let's play! i'm tjansx on psn, what's yours?

Turd

Also, you guys who don't have an XB1 or PS4, it's available on PC.  I know that's not ideal, but it's a way to play it...

This is good news, assuming it supports USB joysticks I'll be purchasing after work.  I really like 14, though only played it one night at Lips' place

Turd

Gantry, I think they said it'll be available via steam a few days after opening day...

Gantry

Blast, when is opening day?  DONT TELL ME TO GOOGLE, I INVENTED THE INTERNET!

Turd

This Sunday, I believe...

Okay. So I totally just lost 9-4 to the computer on RBI Baseball 2015.

I'm drinking bourbon and have zero fucking awareness of Xbox controllers and whatnot, but yeah, that's a thing that just happened.

No shame in that.  The CPU is WAY tougher in the new RBI than on the originals - mainly, their fielding is way more competent, and you can't take advantage of the AI to get extra bases.  Also, I had to get use to the starting position of fielders, and fly balls carried more than I expected, so while the computer's defense was pretty good, mine was a dumpster fire.

Eventually, on RBI '14, I figured out that the Retreat was ridiculously overpowered, and my season included a 25-game winning streak (with the Twins, who are terrible), and I eventually swept through the playoffs.  The first week or two I had the game, though, while I was figuring out the fielding controls and not hitting four or five homers a game, I was lucky to win more than one out of three times.

I'm pretty sure if the retreat is that over powered, I'm not gonna use it...I'd prefer to keep the game a challenge...

Yep, I crushed Lips & Sperling when we played - and I was the only one who retreated consistently.  I like to think that Dee-Nee contributed to that feature getting added.

We should test to see if it's the same benefit in 15

Baines

I really struggled to get my timing down, especially given that I'd had a couple drinks and it was the first time I played. I will say that the one time I used the retreat and made good contact ended up in a 2-run bomb by Devin Mesoraco.

It could be my imagination, but it did seem like using the retreat was kind of all or nothing. If you hit it right it's a home run, but if you're the slightest bit off, it's an infield pop up every time.

Got a chance to play again yesterday and actually won this time, I think something like 13-9 against the Orioles. I'm starting to get the hitting down, but holy fuck am I a complete dumpster fire in the field and on the basepaths. I probably would have scored 4-5 more runs if I hadn't run myself out of at least three innings. I'm getting decent enough at painting the corners and striking guys out, but when they do put it in play, I go after it with the wrong player roughly 90% of the time.

Overall, it's a fun enough game, and I'm hoping that with the simplicity of the controls I can get the kids on board soon.
