Congrats Nomaaa.  Dee-Nee's new Sandwich King.

Didn't think Roger Hornsby would go so early. I'm assuming Nacho meant him by posting that pic of Hornsby beer.

If Nacho's plan goes as planned and I'm sure all our draft plans will unfold just as we envisioned, then I sure want to see how his roster pans out. Hornsby will always hit at his 855 power with good speed. He should hit from .570 to .610 with 12-16 HRs from what I see from 95 simulated at-bats.

Positional scarcity + good power + good speed + perfect contact. He's got everything I'm looking for in a leadoff hitter. There will still be 900+ power guys left in the next round or two.

Darky

There will be at your spot, and judging by how the draft is going, we could see a 900+ guy fall to the 4th round. I was hoping Hornsby would have fell to me by the second round.

I was going to go the seemingly logical direction that most have taken so far, but after seeing what Hack Wilson can do, I couldn't pass up on a guy who can more than make up for a weak spot in the lineup.

There was absolutely no chance that was going to happen. If I hadn't drafted him, I'd have been shocked if he made it past pick 11 or 12.

Tempo probably would have grabbed him. I can't argue with that pick there. There's no way he'll hit under .500 even in a bad year or have under 10 homeruns. He'll score crazy runs with his OBP and speed.

Hornsby is an interesting choice.

The weird thing about this draft is these 975 hitters.  Does having an extra 30 points necessarily mean you will hit more homers than a 945 guy or just that their homers will go further?

I think I'm still going to lean towards picking say a 930 hitter with good speed over a 975 hitter with a 120 speed rating.

Depending on the contact rating, most will hit more and hit for a higher average. And of course, exit velocity is lightning fast on some homers and the oppo power is insane. Hack hit 27 HRs with a .747 average in 87 at-bats while E.Banks hit 19 HRs with a .626 average in 91 at-bats for my simulations against all the pitchers (had my scout roms). Maybe D.Jonhson and Dave Kingman will be outhit in homeruns and average by some guys with higher contact and a +920 power - just guessing depending on how the games may go as far as individual performances go in 18 lottery type games when you consider the contact-power relationship.

If you guys remember, you take contact multiplied by 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0 ... then subtract those 6 different field totals from the power numbers. I generally just take the average and multiply 3 by the contact number and subtract that from the power total. When you multiple by 6 and compare some players, you get a different picture, but how many times will a player hit with the worst contact in 80+ at-bats in a 18-game season?

Back to the hits and bombs by the 975 guys  :o

I was thinking that Ryno was going to go Ruth. I didn't scout Ruth, but can only assume he'll hit over .630 and have at least 20 homeruns. From what I saw while scouting other players, he pretty much hits everything. 6 contact and a 930 power rating. His worst power rating will be (933-6*6) 897 and the average power rating is 915 (933-6*3).

Thanks Gantry!

Shooty's pick wasn't a surprise and it was a solid one.

Mays will be interesting to see this season with that great contact-power-speed ratio.

Mays was very high on my draft board.  Love his combo of contact/speed/power.  He's like Raines but on even more crack.

Nacho

I strongly considered Mays at 6. Other good power guys available at that position, though. None as good as Mays, but good options nonetheless.

nomaaa

yeah that's a really good pick. i was bummed i'm not drafting a little lower to make sense of it

Mays underperformed from what I saw when scouting players on the Giants and other teams, but he's still gonna have a significant impact obviously. I don't have the stats to back up my statement, so I could be off here since I didn't personally record his stats over the span of 18 games on super-speed. And of course, the next set of 18 games for the season will be much different than what I ran. When I scouted sim games on my roms, I'd split the stats from 9 games against a set of SP's with the other set of SP's. Some players had peak and valley splits, but the ones with very low contact had similar splits.
