Week 18 Regular Season Finale - your boys of summer!

So I closed the season on what, an eight game losing streak? Fuck.

TempoGL

losing due to giving up what I am sure counts as an inside the park home run on a ground ball by Whitey Ford and then watching two guys in a row get picked off at second on singles to RF in the 9th inning is a perfect way to wrap up that season.

Boobies had 5 errors in less than 2 innings.  Impressive.

7-game losing streak. You guys were looking good at 6-5. Then the pitching just fell apart and the hitting wasn't enough. The Spiders on the other hand were 2-10, and then they closed out the season 5-1 and they went through Montreal and the Hogans in consecutive games - turned their season around. It's weird, it's like the ROM has some kind of awareness of its own!

Your pitching was on until that slow bleeding inside the parker by Whitey. The consecutive 9-6's was crazy and kind of summarized your year - just bad luck.

Errors were set to 10. I set them during pregame on Twitch and mentioned we'll see who the RBI gods punish or bless.

My Empire just couldn't get the big hits to take command. Guidry is in a damn funk right now. We were up 9-7 in the 4th, and then Ryno dropped 10 on us. Hack Wilson is back to hitting singles and my over achievers must have skipped the weight room or something. It was like our team knew we had the bye until the semi finals, and didn't take shit seriously. They're still running wind sprints -AGAIN ... AGAIN ... AGAIN! (Herb Brooks).

So we concluded the regular season in almost 6 weeks - 18 game schedule! Not bad! After I score the games and do the recaps/boxscores and final stats, I'll post a new Playoff thread with the complete lowdown. I can say right now that the WildCard round will take place on the same day. That is, the Spiders will play Beef, and then right after, the winner will take on Ryno's team. The semi-finals, each team will play two games on the same day. The same for the semi-finals and WS. No need to drag out the playoffs.

Seconded.  Darky is doing great work in this league.  Only took 2 years, but this is fun.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

I'm firmly on the Spiders bandwagon.  If I don't win, I hope they do.

BeefMaster

I have never seen a Fantasy RBI team as prone to multi-inning cold streaks as these Sides of Beef.

I think my team had the highest run differential at +55 and still only went 10-8.

In do-or-die game between the Spiders and Purple Reign for the last playoff spot to earn a birth into the wildcard playoff round, the Cleveland Spiders get outstanding pitching and timely hitting to win 13-10 and capture the #8 seed.

Entering week 13, the Spiders stood at 2-10 - the worst 12-game stretch in the history of the FRBI league. The Spiders went on to finish the year winning 5 of their last 6 to get in - the turn around started with 3-straight improbable wins over the Hulksters, Exposé, and Swinging Dicks. Purple Reign end their season on a 7-game losing streak - bats silent in the season finale. Purple Reign finish 9th. The Cinderella Spiders will play the Sides of Beef in the first round of the WildCard round.

U7 capture #3 seed and playoff bye with outstanding long relief pitching by Phil Niekro and good all around production from the lineup. PNiekro now fourth best in Arcade league in ERA. U7 end season on 4-game winning streak, look dangerous.

Sides of Beef drop to 7th place and will play the Arcade's Cinderella story, Cleveland Spiders.

Swinging Dicks erupt for 10 runs 4th to go up 17-9, The Rocket (#2 in ERA) takes over from there and shuts down feisty Empire. DwEvans, formerly of the Empire, collects 5 hits in 6 at-bats and hits a shot. Mark McGwire wins batting title. Swinging Dicks gain #6 seed for the WildCard round as well as first round WildCard round bye. Will face winner of Sides of Beef vs Cleveland Spiders WC game on the same day. With new Swedish Snus shipment in hand, Ryno heads awaits with confidence for his WildCard game - players will be snusing during playoff game as part of the new sponsor deal for Ryno's program.

Darkside expresses concern about Guidry's recent pitching struggles the past two games. Guidry dropped from #1 ERA to #5 in past two games. Meanwhile, Drysdale has been strong in the second half, now #3 in ERA. Despite lackluster loss, Empire still earn automatic semi-final birth by finishing second by way of tiebreaker with U7 who had the same record.

Hulk Hogans win Arcade League title by getting by Steely Dans Revenge.  WFord sparks sleeping Hulkster offense with 3-run, slow bleeding, inside the park HR. Hogans outscore Steely Dans 11-3 down the stretch after Whitey Ford's momentum changing insider the parker. Steely Dans Revenge was in control of the game with spectacular pitching until the 7th, couldn't get that big inning to put the game out of reach.

Mike Scott wins ERA title and a lock for Cy Young. Hulksters earn automatic semi-final birth with #1 seed - appear to be strong favorites to win it all.

For the Steely Dans Revenge and GM Tempo, it just wasn't their year. They were 0-2 in 1-run games, and the pitching and hitting just couldn't synchronize to string together the wins they needed.

In a game with not much to play for, the Montreal Exposé quickly routed the Blue Footed Boobies 15-3 in two innings. The Blue Footed Boobies hurt themselves with 5 errors.

Montreal earns the #4 seed and the Blue Foots will be the #5 seed. The two will face off in the second round of the playoffs in a best of 5 series.

Mickey Mantle just missed the Triple Crown, but wins the HR title and RBI title. Also finishes #1 in total hits, XBH, Runs, and Slugging % - Mantle is a lock for Arcade league MVP. Many say his HR record of 38 in 18 games, as well as 78 RBI in 18 games may never be broken.

what are the series lengths?

1-1-3-5-7?

WildCard round it's one game until the 6th seed is locked. #8 plays #7, then the winner of that directly plays #6 to earn the 6th and birth into the second round.

Then #6 plays #3, and #5 plays #4 in a 5-game series.

The semi finals and World Series will be a 7-game series.
