Have you done any planning for a tourney this year? If so, are you thinking of going back to spring, or keeping it in the fall?

If the tourney is run between October to the middle of November, I am 99% to show up and win the whole fuckin' thing in RBI.

Starting to put together some new signage for the 2021 event.  Rough draft of the 24 X 36 posters I'm re-doing for this year.  People loved these last year, but these are much better.  I'm probably going to pixelate the baseball cards and the football players to give it the 8-bit feel.

Doing a 24 X 36 rules & info board with Tecmo below.  RBI will get a separate one, as team selection process is a little different and covers a few gameplay rules. I used to print and paste a bunch of stuff on a big sheet.  These will look great when completed.

I'll look into.  The spring/summer date gives players an outdoor option to come play.  However with the vaccine, most anyone who wants it should have it by late summer and perhaps most everyone would be fine playing indoors.

Brookensrules!

The RBI poster is great, I wouldn't change a thing.

BUMPST.  we are on for July 24th in Omaha Nebraksa.  See below.

Tourney is for RBI Baseball(NES/1988) & and original Tecmo Bowl (NES 1989).
Tournament Date:  Saturday July 24th at DJs Dugout sports bar & grill in Omaha Nebraska.
See https://www.tecmobowlnes.com/ for details.  I need to update the site a bit, but a lot of the info is useful/current.

Tecmo Bowl @ noon, RBI Baseball @ 6PM.  Possibly moving those times up by 30 minutes earlier.
Each tourney features a 3 game opening round of group play.  Results are used to seed the brackets. Tecmo is single elimination, RBI becomes best of 3 in the final 4/championship.
Top 24 players from group play advance to elimination rounds.
Anyone losing in early elimination rounds plays in consolation brackets.  The format ensures every competitor plays in 6-7 games at minimum per tourney.
$25 per tourney or $35 for both; Military ID gets $10 off either price.

Cash prizes to the top 5 players & first place wins a trophy.  Also paying out small cash prizes to a few additional consolation game winners.

This tourney is for RBI Baseball(NES/1988) & and the original Tecmo Bowl (NES 1989).  In previous years the event has attracted players from 8 states & a province of Canada. With the early round consolation games all the way to the championship round, you end up facing players at your level in the last 2-3 games of this competition.  Important to note as even the inexperienced players have the opportunity to win their final 2-3 games and go out on a high note.  Same with the intermediate level players.

The event observes a few game play rules for each tourney.
RBI:  1 starting pitcher per game unless it goes into extra innings.
Tecmo Bowl: Offense may not gain yards when defense pick the same play.
a couple other game play rules are in place, but those are the primary stipulations.

"his" in this case can be either Gantry or Kent Hrbek.

Getting ready to proof and send files in for the 24 X 36 procedure, team selection, and rules boards.
I'm super excited about these.  Smaller sheets with the basics on rules, and starting pitchers, etc will be at each gaming station.

Getting confirmation soon, and looks like we'll be able to offer $70 a night rooms at Days inn a few blocks from the venue.  For that price I might have to stay there and not have to drive all the way across town.

Did a preliminary head count yesterday and we already have close to 20 players for both tourneys at this moment.
The DJs Dugout crowd will add to that.  Hopefully we can push it up to about 26-30 players.  Get a steady stream of spectators and it will have a "big time" feel to it.

The larger size tourney actually helps the competitive level as its spreads out the elite players in group play, so no one has a murders row to deal with there.  Also opens the door for a non elite player to get one of the top seeds and possibly pit 2 elites in a round of 8 match-up.  Some easier paths to a high finish can open up with more players/groups.

I played a practice game last night with Ben - it was the first game I've played against an actual human in years. It turns out that years and years of mostly playing against the CPU have trained me to swing at basically everything (I told him to aggressively try to strike me out), and by the time the cartridge glitched and we had to reset, he'd struck me out 15 times in 7 innings. We'll see if a few more practice games are enough to get me from "hopeless" to merely "terrible" before Saturday.

I assume I am going to lose fairly spectacularly, but yeah, I intend to participate in both tournaments, and I just got the hotel booked. I think I've talked Ben into coming to Omaha to keep me company but so far haven't talked him into actually joining the tournament (he's never played Tecmo but I am trying to see if he'll play RBI).

I've been meaning to go basically ever since TBT started holding them (it's only about three hours away) but hadn't been able to do for one reason or another, and last year COVID hit just as I was trying to get a hotel booked - I had a buddy who was going to go with me but wasn't able to go this year, so I'm roping in my son as a travel buddy. My family wasn't ready yet COVID-wise for last year's August reschedule (noting that TBT ran that thing as carefully and responsibly as possible, so absolutely no qualms with that), but I wasn't going to miss it this year.

I do plan to get out there one year - this time it's during the family reunion and usually it's right after my return from Mexico and NCAA Wrestling Tournament 1/2.  So the timing is never right but I'll make it happen.
