Empire wins thriller in 10 innings to take game 1 of the FRBI Arcade World Series

Down 14-11 with 1 out in the top of the 9th and the Hulkster Stadium in a frenzy, Captain D.Mattingly hit a single to mildly silence the crowd with Hack Wilson coming up. Hack Wilson then blasted a D.Righetti fastball to narrow the deficit to 14-13. Hank Aarron then followed with a game-tying HR and the game went to the bottom of the 9th even at 14.

Pedro Borbón got J.Rice to hit into a DP after J.Foxx led off with a single. Davey Johnson then struck out and to the 10th the exciting game 1 went.

In the top of the 10th, the Empire got back-to-back hits from pinch hitters D.Rader and C.Lansford to put runners on second and third with no outs. J.Robinson then hit an infield popup. Empire captain Donny Baseball then hit the go-ahead single to give the Empire a 15-14 lead. Hack Wilson then hit his third HR of the evening and the Empire took a 18-14 lead into the last half of the 10th. Pedro Borbón limited the Hulksters to 1-run in the 10 as he faced the bottom of the lineup. The Hulksters threatened with 2 outs after a J.Cruz pinch hit to put runners on 1st and 2nd, but Dave Righetti came to the plate and hit a weak popup to the pitcher to end the game 1 thriller.

Hack Wilson continued to swing his hot bat by going 5/7 with 3 towering homeruns and 8 RBI. He now has 11 HR in 5 games and 25 RBI. The Empire's bullpen was also critical for the Empire victory and Drysdale only allowed 1 run in his 3 innings of long relief work.

Hank Aarron's 4 HR and 10 RBI game carries the Empire to game 2 thrilling victory.

Hank Aarron set a FRBI World Series record with 4 HR and 10 RBI while Ron Cey and Alvin Dark both contributed with a pair of homeruns. The Empire's bullpen once again comes through in the clutch.

The Empire exploded out to a 15-1 lead in the third inning, but the resilient Hulksters chipped away at the lead before they took a 19-16 lead in the 6th inning after a 7-run rally in the 6th. In the top of the 8th, Jim Rice hit a 2-run blast for the 21-19 go-ahead lead heading into the top of the 9th. Righetti took the ball in the top of the 9th to secure a win for the Hulksters, but then disaster struck.

Righetti was rocked for 7 runs in the top half of the 9th and got his second straight loss and blown save in the series. Alvin Dark led off the inning with a double. PH Stan Hack then drove him in with a double of his own. After pinch hitter Ashby flied out, J.Robinson then hit a single to put runners at the corners with 1 out. D.Mattingly then hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Hack Wilson then hit a screaming single to once again put runners at the corners with 2 outs. Hank Aarron then hit an opposite field homerun to give the Empire a 24-21 lead, it was his 4th. After a Jody Davis walk, Ron Cey hit his second HR of the evening to give the Empire a little cushion heading into the last half of the 9th.

The Hulk Hogans then staged a furious 2-out rally while down 26-22. Righetti reached first base safely and J.Foxx collected his 7th hit (FRBI record) to set up J.Rice's 3-run shot to make the game a 1-run nerve racking game. Davey Johnson then grounded out to first base to end the game.

The Empire have now won 6 consecutive post season games and now take a 2-0 series lead as the series heads to the Imperial Center Stadium in Las Vegas. The Hulksters committed 2 costly errors early in the game and they hit into two double plays which proved to be key factors to their loss.

Empire edges Hulksters in nail-biter, bullpens and double plays once again decide the game. Empire take 3-0 series lead, extend playoff winning streak to 7.

The Empire found themselves cruising for most of the game and took a 9-4 lead into the 7th inning. J.Cruz led off the 7th with a pinch hit single culminating to 6 straight hits including 4 consecutive homeruns by J.Foxx, J.Rice, D.Johnson, and S.Musial to give the Hulksters a 10-9 lead. The Empire got a Mattingly rbi single to tie the game in the bottom half of the 7th.

K.Bass led off the 8th facing Goose Gossage with a pinch hit HR which was directly followed by a J.Foxx double and a J.Rice 2-run shot to put the Hulksters ahead 13-10. D.Johnson then followed with a single before S.Musial hit into a demoralizing double play, his third double play of the series. Gossage regained momentum and got F.Lynn to hit into a ground out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the 9th and with the Hulksters top reliever on the bump, the Empire immediately strung together 4 straight hits and got a fielders choice RBI by pinch hitter H.Ashby to even up the contest at 13. With a runner on 3rd with 1 out, C.Lansford hit a clutch go-ahead pinch hit single to put the Empire up 14-13. After a J.Robinson double (his 3rd of the game), Mattingly hit a fielders choice RBI to give the Empire a 2-run 15-13 cushion heading into the top of the 9th.

Closing pitcher Pedro Borbón came in to close out game 3 and he recorded two quick outs. As they have all year long, the Hulksters refused to go down easily and got back-to-back hits from pinch hitters J.Cruz and B.Hatcher. Cruz hit a single and Hatcher followed with a two-out triple to make the game 15-14 in favor of the Empire. J.Foxx, the Hulksters top hitter in the series and playoffs, stepped up to bat with the Imperial Center Stadium seemingly shaking from the decibels produced by the electric crowd. Pedro Borbón reached back and challenged Foxx with a heater right down the pipe. Foxx lined the pitch right at 1B D.Mattingly to end another exciting game decided with the last pitch of the game.

Hank Aarron hit 2 more homeruns to give him 8 HR and 16 RBI in the 3 games of the series so far. The Hulksters were once again crippled by double plays - they now have hit into 5 double plays for the series while the Empire only 1. And the bullpens continue to be a significant difference with the Empire's bullpen outperforming the Hulksters bullpen.

On brink of elimination, Hulk Hogans explode for 20 runs in 6 innings to blowout the Empire in mercy rule 20-4 demolishing.

Down 3-0 in the Arcade World Series, GDavis told his Hulksters and Hulkamaniacs to keep believing. The Hulksters responded in an enormous way while recapturing the edge the Hulksters have had all year. Musial and Nettles each hit a pair of shots while J.Foxx and J.Rice both went 5 for 5 in the 1-2 part of the order to spark the hitting pace. The Hulksters scored in every inning while W.Ford shutdown the Empire hitters to help the Hulksters quickly win in 6 innings by way of mercy rule. J.Rice and D.Johnson each now have 6 homeruns in the 4 games of the series, and J.Foxx is leading all hitters in the series with .750 average.

Game 4 was the first non-competitive game that didn't go down to the wire in the FRBI Arcade World Series. The Empire came out perhaps a bit too confident and lacked any sense of urgency and intensity. The series will conclude today live on Twitch at 4pm Dee Nee time. Games 6 and 7, if necessary, will immediately follow game 5 - we will see a Champion crowned today.

Hulk Hogans seize game 5 to send the series back to Hulkamania Stadium in New York. Hulkster bullpen finally pitches lights out in the 8th and 9th to lock up the victory and the Hulksters avoid hitting into double play.

The Hulk Hogans got the bats going early and raced out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first and 12-3 lead in the 5th before the Empire worked their way back in the game and eventually took a 15-14 lead after 8 innings.

In the top of the 8th, the Hulksters got a 2-out pinch hit from J.Cruz to even the score at 15. Then J.Foxx followed with a go-ahead screaming line drive that exited the field like a lightning bolt. Worrel then pitched a scoreless 8th. In the top of the 9th, the Hulkster added 3 insurance runs after a string of doubles. In the 9th, D.Righetti pitched brilliantly and didn't blow his save opportunity or the game with an impressive scoreless 9th.

J.Foxx continued his torrid hitting with 3 homeruns, two doubles, 5 total hits, and 6 RBI. F.Lynn also had an impressive evening with a 5/6 performance.

Empire capture Arcade World Series title behind outstanding pitching from Drysdale and Guidry. Hank Aarron named series MVP.

The Empire got a stellar pitching performance from both Drysdale and Guidry as they limited the explosive Hogans hitters to 11 runs off 16 hits. The Hulksters only scored 5 runs after the third inning and went scoreless between innings 3 and 6. From the plate, Hank Aarron hit a pair of shots to lead the Empire offensively. Aarron led all series hitters with 11 HR, 21 RBI, and hit an impressive .647 for the series, good for second best behind J.Foxx. Unsung hero and over-achiever role player J.Davis broke out of his slump with a HR and 2 doubles registering 4 RBI from the 8-hole.

The Hogans fought their way back into the game by the 7th as the score stood 11-7 in the Empire's favor going into the 8th. Worrel was rocked for 5 runs and in the 9th, H.Wilson blasted a moonshot for an insurance run making it 17-8 heading into the bottom of the 9th. The resilient Hulksters put up a last stand rally and managed to score 3 runs to stage a threat. But Guidry reached back for something extra and got Musial to fly out to end the rally and series.

As noted before, the Hulksters got all the bad breaks go against them which put them in a 0-3 hole in the series. The Hulksters hit into 6 double plays while the Empire only 1 double play. The Hulksters also committed more errors, some of them costly that made a significant impact combined with the double plays. The Empire managed to beat out some throws on the bases which allowed them to extend the inning and thus resulted in more runs in the 1-run games the Empire won.

J,Foxx led all hitters in the series with a .771 average and with 27 hits while hitting 7 HR - good for 3rd best. Fred Lynn hit 4 homeruns to help keep the Hogans within striking distance. Mike Scott was spectacular all series and displayed why he is the best pitcher in the game with a 11.57 ERA and only allowing 6 HR while fanning 4 in the series.

Well that concludes the first ever Arcade season and it was fun doing it. We had some good storylines and of course games. Thanks to the ballscore and ballstat programs I have for the database, it wasn't a problem to score games and get what ever stats I wanted. We finished in just about 7 weeks for a 18 game schedule plus playoffs.

The exciting drama of the season was how Fighton's Spiders made the playoffs after such a dramatic turn around to their season. It was a good Hollywood type movie story. Then there was the collapse of Nacho's team! And one of the main storylines was the over-achieving season of Mantle and his record setting HRs. We'll see if he can duplicate that somewhat in the FRBI Super league.

The playoffs were fun with the play-in wildcard round and then how Shooty's team flopped against nomaaa's Blue Footed Boobies. There were a lot of surprises with some of the players and how this Arcade version works and it seems that pitching is premium, as well as getting basehits from the bottom of the lineup. I found how valuable the 795 power hitters are as well as all the hitters who were between 795 and 855 - we saw that Bonds is an enigma since he hit over 20 HRs and he is a 855 guy. We all should have a good idea who the elite pitchers are in this league.

I wasn't expecting that much from my team this year, but Jody Davis and Guidry turned out to be huge surprises. Then Alvin Dark was pretty productive and J.Robinson turned out to be a weapon. The trade for Lou Brock really helped propel us with his speed and production. It should be noted that I traded J.Foxx to G.Davis when we first started this league for D.Mattingly and R.Cey. I also sent Hatcher to GDavis as part of that package. GDavis had an extra 1B and 3B on his bench, so he couldn't say no to Foxx and I needed some guys to get on base for me. Otherwise, the bottom of my lineup would have had S.Hack instead of Cey. Hank Aarron hit 17 HRs in the playoffs - 10 games. He hit I believe 18 or 19 in the 18-game regular season. Then H.Wilson got in a serious zone as well. So those two guys really came through in the playoffs and that is what you hope for is to have your stars take over in a series. I got all the breaks in the WS against GDAvis and that is why we won, otherwise I don't think we win those close games and the series since I can't say my team is better than GDavis team, nor can I say his team is better unless Scott is dealing.

Anyways, thanks for the participation during the season and to those who watched on Twitch and commented. I will create a new thread for the Super league and we'll get going hopefully by Wednesday. The schedule is already created. Everything will be the same in the Super League, but the waiver wire will be open all year. Same pitching anything goes rules and all that. It will be a 18 game schedule with the same playoff format as the Arcade league.

Shooty

Congrats Darky.

Great job running the league.

Darky

Thanks Shooty. Your interest and participation made the season a lot funner. It sucks about your great team you had in how they just didn't have it against nomaaa's team. Your team looks pretty solid in the Super RBI League.
