  I'm very skeptical of this actually coming off as I've received numerous e-mails from other RBIers hoping to start their own tournaments, all to no avail.

I think I fkn pulled it off pretty well...about a year later.

So this mysterious SF tourney guy was fkn Darkside?  The joke was on us...and especially Gantry, for thinking he's a "gentleman!"

I finally setup all my mail filtering and noticed the gentleman who is organizing this thing sent me an email a few weeks ago.

I dismissed it early on too, but I think there might actually be some merit to their claims.  The person with whom I've been speaking with said that many of his friends "are now powerful people in the Silicon Valley business world who will finance the travel, lodging, and food."

In addition he states that his "group is from the class of '90, all college graduates, and some have made it to the top in the business world in the Bay and got really lucky with stocks before the bubble bursted in 01.  They are all RBI alumni and always participated in the tournaments that I organized during and after high school.  We have really strong connections in the right places to help ease the cost of the tournament for us.  But the most important thing is organizing this tournament and having a once in a lifetime experience which is considered more important than the money."

There isn't a website yet (or at least I haven't been informed of one).  I don't want to give away his e-mail/name as I'm afraid he would be flooded with e-mails and the last thing I want to do is discourage him from proceeding with this tournament.  Also, the one that I've been speaking with currently presides in Sweden.  So it's unlikely you're going to get any games in against him.  Maybe I could ask if one of his friends would be willing to play someone from the forums.  But overall, it sounds like they are capable of pulling something like this off.

I missed the Sweden part, so it is certainly Darkside, then what happened, was it BS from the start?
