Good question.  Too busy at work today to research it.

Has to be.  He only saw 1 AB in the 88 series and we all know the resulting fist pumping.  Don't think he ever returned to the WS afterward

ultimate7

Correct it is Gibson, that was his only WS AB as a NL player, he also played in the '83 series with the Tigers.

Sorry, I meant '84 right.

Great question.  I emailed this to all of my college RBI buddies.  Still awaiting their responses.

Easy to say after you see the answer

You bastard!

I mean really, though, who doesn't know that Gibson's only appearance was PH duty in game one of the '88 series?

I did figure this one maybe too easy, but I don't see any other bastards coming up with any of these.  It's tough to make 'em difficult without making them impossible.

Off the top of my head, another easy-ish one:

Name the player who had more than twice as many career homeruns than career doubles.

No cheating.
I've been swimming in raw sewage ... I love it

Without looking it up, I'd guess McGwire, since he was pretty much immobile and hit lots of homers.  Then again, it could be something wacky like a pitcher who happened to hit a few homers.

It has to be Mac.  He only had about 1600 career hits with almost 600 home runs.  I doubt that 30% of his remaining hits were doubles.

Another easy one.  Who was the first RBI'er to make $1M/season?

Nolan Ryan?

I wonder how many RBIers have been the highest-paid player in baseball at any point.  I know Sandberg was in the early '90s, and I seem to recall Potatoes having that title at some point, too.

I think Nolan was the first $1M player - I wouldn't have remembered that if ultimate hadn't said it first, though.

That Stat is asstounding, I can't find anyone else who is close, so far Rob Deer has about 64% as many Double as HRs.  Even Balboni had 70%.
