Sorry if I forgot any other programming guru's name off this list.  Now that it looks like we have assembled the Dee-Nee and Dah Nah teams, we need to come up with some sort of model that can generate stats for our team.  Of course we could just make eveyone dominate, but that would not be indicative of the site.

I propose coming up with something that reflects the amount of posts and/or site contirbutions that each player has done.  Obvisouly Gantry would be the league's best player, but it would be deserved.  Lips is a moderator so he should be a top player as well.   NIghtwolf only has 100 postings but has contributed some great great insights into the RBI programming and even did that music thing that was sweet.  Marquis has created some get ROM's so that should be added in as well.   Maybe we could have something based on a point system.

+1 point for each post
+30 points for each quality rom
+50 points for discovering something new about the RBI game (programming wise)
+10 points for starting a thread with over 40 posts
+75 points for beating vitb6 in a debate

Of course I jsut threw this numbers out there but if we came up with a system that was reflective of the site it would make for a balanced team.  The dee-nee team has some people on it that do not post and they also have some dogs that do not post.  Gantry & compnay would have to come up with some way to generate stats for these guys as well.

ANother reason thatcreating a scale might be a good idea is that it might spur on more site participation.  If for example we re-did the stats every 3 months, it would give incentive for people to post mosre or come up with more stuff.

Let me know what you guys think is the best way to go about creating stats/abilities for everyone.

vgp100

Wow, this one might kill me. I have kind of a lot of posts, but no roms, definitely no discoveries in the programming of the game, nobody gives a shit about the threads I start, and, well I'd at least have 75 points because I always beat Vitb like a bitch. (his dog, too)
You're going down, chainsaw.

doveRBI

That system will definately tank me because I'm rom illiterate... hey vitb want to fight?  Just name your argument!

sucka free

....vgp, you wouldn't be a top player, more like a mid level guy.  But you have to ask yourself, should you be a top level guy?  IF gantry started the site and has the most contribuitions and most posts then obvisouly he is, lets say, at a reggie jackson level.  Compared to him how would you rate yourself.  400 posts means you have been here for a while and have contributed alot.  You and I would most  likely be a gedman type or someother good mid range guy.  Last time I checked the middle guys can still hit jacks...

.....as for you doverbi, you haven't been around as long as the others.  ALthough you're off to a great start you can't expect to be at a "lips" level.    Keep in mind, that if we continue to re-evalute the rom every 3 months, your player if you contribute more and more will get better and better.

..keep in mind, I'm not sure if this is a good way to come up with player stats so if anyone else has something better I'm all ears.  I'd figure the programmers might be able to devise a more reflective model than myself.

vgp100

I think it's good to have a ranking--I'm just not sure this is the best system. Someone like clyon has created many roms, but adds nothing other than arguments about whose is better. (you aren't going to like it clyon, but you just piss me off)
I like the total post and the starting long threads--or discovering something new. I just think any non RBI fan can just come here and create a rom. What do you think?
You're going down, chainsaw.

GDavis

I agree that it should put less weight towards roms, but I won't lose any sleep if the GDavis player on the rom ends up sucking.  I think there should also be points given for digging up hall of shame entries, which I find a lot more interesting than roms.

Do I get credit for beating Vitb in a taco bell debate?  I did get him to admit it was grade F meat.  Anyone local to NYC knows that Burritoville is the place for quality mex.

Vitb6

QuoteDo I get credit for beating Vitb in a taco bell debate?  I did get him to admit it was grade F meat.
That answer is no because I never said that Taco Bell had good quality meat.  I just agreed that while the meat was good, its quality sucked ass.  So you lose...AGAIN.

Agree and ditto to me.

QuoteThat system will definately tank me because I'm rom illiterate... hey vitb want to fight?  Just name your argument!
PALEESE...you're also debating illiterate.  Don't embarass yourself.  You are probably better off devising some way to create a ROM then taking me on.  Stay away.

Quote...well I'd at least have 75 points because I always beat Vitb like a bitch. (his dog, too)
name one thing that you beat me like a bitch.  And comments about my dog may get you killed in places like these...watch what you say if you can't back it up.

SUCKA...you see what you got me in.  I wasn't going to respond but I had an Animal House flash.  On one shoulder the angel..."you're a better person than this...just ignore it.  And then the devil..."respond you mother-fucker, these people are punks".  I'm torn.  ARRGGHHH!

Vitb6

And VGP...your statement about Sweet Lou sucking is borderline lunacy.  You just lost debate to everyone on this forum.

I guess if people CAN get points for beating me in a debate, I think it would only be fair for me to get points in people I take down in debates.  WOW, I guess I'm the best player in the league.  :-)

doveRBI

hey vitb... who is that gay you are using for an icon?

Vitb6

Quotehey vitb... who is that gay you are using for an icon?
So are those fightin' words?  And BTW, maybe if you drop your eyes 0.005mm down from my pic you'll figure out who he is SINCE IT SAYS IT RIGHT THERE!

doveRBI

yah, i figured that was your main squeeze... i just wanted to see what you'd say :)

The Murph

Boys, boys, what does it matter who is better on the ROM.  What does it matter who vitb's main squeeze is or if anyone can beat him in a debate, or if you get extra points for making ROM's.  Sheesh, it is only a ROM.  Besides, everyone here, probably couldn't hit a pitch from a pro pitcher or strike out a pro hitter.  The ROM is for fun, not for a grudge match between who is better.  My main concern is that I will get to see myself playing on the RBI field.  That my friends is super sweet!!!

Pretty funny man.

hmmm, isn't admitting that the meat is low quality, admitting that it's bad?  You can argue that you like bad quality meat, but just because you personally like poor quality food products doesn't make them good.  Lets face it, taco bell meat is half chinese newspaper and half rat anus.

Also, I doubt you have ever tried Burritoville, so it's unfair for you to make a comparison.  Around these parts, the debate is between which is better mex, Burritoville or San Loco, and Taco Bell isn't even close to either.

Checkmate!

P.S.
I think we can give doveRBI extra points for having the dancing Megaman icon.  It makes his posts seem extra silly and enthusiastic.

LOL, wow looks like I created a firestorm.  My bad, but I'm sure the T.O. of the forums can handle it.  Vit, you might want to ditch your wrestling avatar for a sharpie avatar.

Back on the topic at hand.... we need to create a model that will help generate some stats.  Gantry is obvisously going to have the best numbers.  Let's put him at .400 ave and 74 hr.  I think t has the fewest posts on the Dah-Nah's so lets put him at .175 ave 1 hr.  EVERYONE else will fall inbetween these stats, never going higher than gantry or lower than t.  If we have a scale of 1 to 100 t will be 1 and gantry will be 100.

THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

100 points = .400 74
90 points =  .375 62
80 points =  .350 55
70 points =  .325 41
60 points = .300 33
50 points =  .280 27
40 points =  .270 22
30 points =  .250 15
20 points =  .240 10
10 points =  .225   5
  1 point  =   .175   1

* every ten posts = 1 point
* every quality rom = 5 points
* every post that you create with over 20 responses = 5 points
* every RBI dscovery (has to big significant) = 15 points
* participated in an dee-nee sanctioned tourny =5 points
* moderate dee-nee.com = 5 points
* made contributions to the site like helping create information about teams, helping with definition, ect. = 1 point
* have a profile on the dee-nee.com site = 10 points

everyone should tally up their point and see where they fall in the scale.  If you have a point total that is 43 they choose some stats that fall between .280 & .270 and 27 & 22.  So if you total 43 you can choose to be a .274 hitter with 23 hrs.

I'll use myself for an example.  I have 5 topics created with over 20 responses = 25 points.  I have 500 posts = 50 points.  I have 0 roms and 0 rbi discoveries.  My point total is 75 points.  My stats would be .333 43 hr

Lets do nightwolf.  He explained unknown pitcher rom data, made an arcade rom version in nes format, made the rom editor, and wrote out the music notes for RBI. 4 discoveries = 60 points.  He also has 100 posts that = 10 points for a total of 70 points.  Nightwolf's stats would be .325 41hr

What do you guys think?

Lips

I don't know if Jason has had Burritoville, but I have.  There's a Burritoville at NIU (Northern Illinois), where Gantry, Potsie, Sperling, and I went to school.  Yeah, sure...there probably isn't any relation between the two Burritovilles, but let me tell you, although it was one of the best foods to eat while being drunk (what isn't?)...it was also one of the worst foods to eat while being sober.  I mean, after eating Burritoville, sober once...I never ate there again.  The food was just that bad.  Of course, I didn't find out the food was that bad...until one of my last semesters.

Add to the mix, that I elbowed a random girl at Burritoville.  I totally thought it was Jessie (of the Dee-Nee's), even after three of my friends told me that it wasn't Jessie.  Whoops!!  The elbow didn't go over too well, with the random girl's boyfriend.  It was best not to return to Burritoville: bad food, bad drunken habit.
RBI isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle...

Vitb6

GDavis you mut be drunk now, if not, you have some problems...

Quotehmmm, isn't admitting that the meat is low quality, admitting that it's bad?
Not in the case of Taco Bell!  Although their meat is low quality their steak and chicken is decent, their tortillas and hard shells and the rest of their ingredients are actually pretty good quality.

QuoteYou can argue that you like bad quality meat, but just because you personally like poor quality food products doesn't make them good.
Being a fan of TB doesn't mean I like low quality foor products.  BTW the best Steakhouse is Ruth Cris, best Seafood joint is Nick's Fishmarket and best Italian is Rosebud (although this one is debateable).

QuoteLets face it, taco bell meat is half chinese newspaper and half rat anus.
I hardly doubt that the FDA would allow Chinese newspaper and rat anus in any gradeable meat products.

QuoteI doubt you have ever tried Burritoville, so it's unfair for you to make a comparison.  Around these parts, the debate is between which is better mex, Burritoville or San Loco, and Taco Bell isn't even close to either.

Ummmmm, what?  When has the word Burritoville ever been written by me on this forum?  Are you reading the same things everyone else is?  I didn't even know what the hell Burritoville was until Lips wrote that it was the mexican place at NIU.  Then I remembered that I did eat there twice when I visited them on the weekends.  I was not drunk and it was horrid!  And I tried it again another weekend thinking that they may have had a bad day...NOPE...it is vial, vial food.

There is no comparison between Burritoville and Taco Bell.  The mere fact that you and your buds even argue that TB and Burritoville are even remotely close to the same level, automatically disqualifies your San Loco joint as a viable option to compete with Taco Bell.

Checkmate!!!

sucka free, your proposal for stats makes sense.  Of course, I'm slated to be a pitcher, so it doesn't really apply to my "player" anyway.  My only request is that you make me a sidearmer (as I am in real life).  If I have a 3.55 ERA (that's the max; if it weren't, I'd suggest mine be about 3 times that) and throw 50 miles an hour, so be it - it'll be realistic, if nothing else.  I figure I'm enough of a newbie that I have no right to complain, even if I suck.

Also, I was going to try to offer some calming words in the pissing match between vgp100, vitb6, and GDavis, but it's become funny enough that I hesitate to say anything.  For what it's worth, I had a couple chalupas at the Bell the other day and enjoyed them, and I've never heard of Burritoville.
