So the whole "mute the music" idea got me interested in playing with the sound engine. I've finally got the entire thing mapped out, which left me with a list of all the possible sound effects and songs in the game.

So, here's a stupid question for the RBI gurus out there. How many different sound effects exist in the game, how many different songs exist in the game, and can you name them?

Winner gets a kiss from Gantry, or something.

japetus462

Ok, 4 songs.....Intro Music, Normal Music, Rally Music, Game Ending music....

Gantry

Man, that's a doozy!  I don't even think I can come close on this one but I don't listen to the game itself so I have an excuse.  Come on bitches, prove yourselves...

List the sound effects and the next poster can add to it.  Unless someone can get them all...

JoeDirt

I am an unproven bitch 'cause although I always play with the music on (to hear pitch speeds), I just don't know.

The dee nee tard mixed in with gantry looks a little bit like TBT

I ALWAYS listen to the music and I have no idea what the answer is but I'm thinking japetus (what the fuck does that mean anyway) is right.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Baines

between innings music

Baines may have hit a homer with Baines, yelled Baines and immediately changed into a Baines jersey.

You know who's the best? Baines...

Iron Man by Iron Maiden. Or maybe I'm tihnking of something else

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

BeefMaster

I think there are only the 5 Japetus and Baines mentioned, unless there's a different music when you finish a "season" (I don't think there is, though).

Blyleven_No-No

great point Baines, the switching innings music is classic.   Gantry, have you posted the guitar version that BurksForLeadoff  produced??

Maybe some of our more "country" brothers in Indiana would like that version more than the techno one.

I think the techno version of RBI could be the biggest hit in Europe right now and I may contact a record label....does anybody else listen to that song multiple times every day??

The rendition that he is working on now will feature all of the different tunes so you can look out for it in the near future!

alrite since i decided to skip all classes today, i took this sound challenge on... i just played one inning, and heres a list of what i heard... feel free to add or edit, this is far from perfect im sure..

a unique sound occurs when...

--contact with the ball on a grounder/line-drive (doubles as first thing you hear when you turn the game on)
--pitch on its way to the plate (curveball or fastball... varies with speed)
--a swing and a miss
--ball hitting any wall (fly or bounce)
--a ball thrown from one player to another in the field
--the ball hops on the turf (may be batted or long distance throw... which means 1B to 2B in this game)
--when you call tmie
--a knuckball on its way to the plate
--a ball, which doubles as a foul ball sound
--a baserunner sliding
--the fans cheer after a run
--an out call (strike out or otherwise)
--a safe call, also played upon someone crossing the plate
--a player catching the ball at an open base (you dont hear this with an occupied one b/c there is an out/safe call to make.. further this sound is also the one played when the pitcher "steps off" to check the runners)
--gratuitous cheer on the first contact after a HR (can be for either team)
--the DREADED beanball sound
--an error, or as you guys call its, a bop
--a pop-up (like pitched non-knuckball, this varies... with height)
--when you start to steal
--the fireworks after a HR
--the little HR ditty
--the wild cheering after a HR

phew... again this is after just one inning, so theres no way its complete... but i thought itd give us a decent start..

oh, and i almost forgot:

--the 4 minutes, 26 curse tirade I go on whenever tony pena grounds into a double play (this sound doubles as when Worrell surrenderes a late game HR)
"The RBI Gods giveth, and the RBI Gods can taketh away"

OzzieLongBall

PS--nightwulf can you throw us a number on the total number of sound effects??

Gantry

Good list Ozzie...

QuoteGantry, have you posted the guitar version that BurksForLeadoff  produced??

Not yet, but I will give it a listen tonight.  Worked offsite way too long and am catching up on email/forums as we speak.  Thanks for the heads up though, you are added much entries to the main page and I appreciate the effort...

Well you guys aren't much fun. Note that Gantry didn't dispute me offering a kiss from him as the prize. Thankfully no one won. :P

There are 7 songs in RBI. The 5 japetus and Baines listed, the "homerun" song (which is technically a song, though listed by Ozzie as a sound effect), and yes Beef, there is a different song when you finish a season. ;)

There are only 17 unique sound effects in RBI, which kinda surprised me. Then again, several are used for more than one action in the game.

pause
"out"
"safe" or run scored
"foul" and "ball"
"strike"
ball hit
"beanball"
ball hit wall, error, bunt
ball caught
ball bounce
fastball
curve
sinker
player sliding
runner stealing
firework
applause

I think Ozzie hit most of them. There's also the sound made when a flyball is in the air. This technically isn't a sound effect; data is constantly fed into one of the sound registers when a flyball is in the air, varying with the height of the ball.

In the editor, although you can selectively mute the "foul" and "ball" sound separately, they are the same sound. For whatever reason (drugs?) this sound is activated differently for the two conditions, so they can be muted separately as well.
