PH's in general...when do they come in?

i dont care to throw a PH in the game right away.  Especially if my opponent started the game with a starter(clemens/tudor/witt/etc).  i tend to wait till the 2nd time thru the order, when those guys become more hittable.

I feel like many starters can be a tad too unhittable for an inning or 2 to waste the PH bonus power.  However if a guy starts a reliever, then im more likely to bring in a power guy by the 2nd inning to either get a big hit vs a tiring pitcher or chase that fool from the game a bit earlier than he should be.

situations always dictate what happens, but i try to stick with the general rules i have set.  also crap varies from team to team, but this is all my good rule of thumb when being a team like BOS or DET that's got a loaded bench.

i agree with htis, i burn sullivan mid game on the 8th spot.  i see his point and you want your best bats to have the most opportunities.  its just a matter of preference, by L'oreal 6 1/2 G(my mom uses this crap).

I usually bring in Armas and Burks right away, then save Hendu for when I really need him.  Owen and Barrett suck too much to be allowed to hit for themselves...

I think the disparity between the pinch hitter and the guy he subs plays a big part of this, like what Dryden was saying.   Using California as example, putting in a Ruppert Jones for Pettis is a no brainer (assuming you like Ruppert at #1), but the difference between Wilfong/Burleson and Boone might want for a situational sub.  I typically can't hit much of anything in curve, but the first two innings are even tougher.  Regardless, it's not like I never get runs duing that period...

If you have a starter in the 700s with power and you are leaving a guy with 850+ power on the bench for one PH boost, I consider it bad strategy.  But then again, I never win in curve..

Obviously, str8 pitch, they all come in right away.
In ATG, it all depends who I am playing.  If it is the caliber of some of the guys on this forum (ie, joed, atezz, etc...) then I wait awhile to bring in my subs.  Maybe by this time I can get used to the pitching or tire a pitcher.  No sense bringing in a guy with the PH bonus just to strike out.

I usually let the borderline guys get an at-bat or two or three if they are successful.  But pieces of crap like Pettis and Barrett who have studs waiting get yanked immediately.
