That's right, happy 61st the Smutton.

His birthday was actually the 2nd, but I just felt that he was the most noteworthy RBI'er who's had a birthday so far this month to make a thread for, since I've been missing the birthday threads, offering great opportunities to discuss individual players and strategies, and perhaps motivate database contributions.

Personally like man-perm.  Solid all-around pitcher, only real flaw is his lack of speed.  Granted his value's still a shade below Witt's, but overall I think he's about 10th or 11th place or so among the game's 20 starters, which, you know, I guess is middle of the pack after all, but I nevertheless am still a fan.  Maybe it's the whole Brave's announcer thing...

i hardly ever use him to the lack of competition in my geographic region and the fact that when i play against the computer, i usually start witt or moore, and never use sutt.  although, i did shake his hand at a autograph session in buena park mall when i was young.

Sutton, just like his fellow Angels starter Witt, is mediocre.  Doesn't do anything particularly well but can does have the stamina going for him.  I find that Witt and Sutton do just enough in that they'll keep the game close long enough for the big bats of the Angels to come though and do some serious damage.

Skip Caray:  "And they're still trying to get a wave going here.  Have you ever done a play-by-play of a wave, Joe?"

Joe Simpson: "I'd describe it as the Don Sutton permanent wave."
