Mark McGwire's little brother Jay has been floating a book proposal in which he claims that he was the one who got Mark started on steroids and also served as his supplier.  Deadspin has been running book excerpts, and today they ran an interview with Jay's ex-fiancee, who corroborates the story.

My nitpick about this book proposal - was there really anyone on the planet who didn't already believe Mark McGwire used steroids?

I personally don't get why McGwire gets such a bad rap for his testimony with congress.  The guy didn't lie.  I'm sure his attorneys told him not to say he took steroids, since, you know, they're against the law and all.  He basically pleaded the 5th.  So what's so wrong with that?  It's better than what the others did--committed perjury, right?

I'm with you to a certain extent.  If he wanted to plead the 5th, he should have gone out and said it.  Literally plead the 5th anytime he was asked about injecting steroids into himself.  Sure, he didn't necessarily lie, but he looked like a bumbling jackass in not doing so.

As for his brother, the dude has one eye.  He is not to be trusted.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

What about Dan McGwire?  I had high hopes for the guy in the NFL.

Fine, but why does he continue to get hammered and Palmeiro and Sosa get a free pass?  Whose testimony was worse?

Because at the time McGwire's was a lot worse than Raffy or Sammy's, had either of them gotten busted the very next day, then McGwire wouldn't seem so bad, but it was a long time after their testimony and the testimony was kinda a 'flavor of the month' thing and nobody really cared much anymore when Raffy was out getting in trouble.

was he the 5th pick?

JoeDirt

1) he's an RBIer, 2) I turned down $100/card for about 10 of his rookies when I was younger and now they're worth shit, and 3) I don't really care that much...just think it's odd that nobody else seems to acknowledge that at least he didn't lie.

Mac pulled that "I'm not here to talk about the past" bullshit.  Yes, fucktard, you are there to talk about the past.

I also think people thought more of McGwire --- they thought he was a better man than that.

Not really, he was there to talk about preventing kids from using steroids.

It was nothing but crappy grandstanding by congress.
