Gantry has a list similar to this on his website.  The difference is hopefully what will compel you guys to vote - it is the opinion of the masses.

If it becomes obvious that this post is a failure, I will end it in shame and think of something more pathetic to post.

This is somewhat an extension of my last poll and will influence whether or not I do a poll for an RBI Hall of Fame.

The Ground Rules:

Voting should be based on how well you have done with a particular player.  Voters should have played with every player in each category - (I mean really, how long have you been playing this game)

In a Purist spirit, the All-Star teams are not included.

Voting will be done by positions.

The number of polls used to determine a winner is subject to change, and probably will change.

How is the Winner Determined?
If one player receives more than 15 votes and holds a plurality, voting will close and he will be declared the winner.

This message will be posted, along with any modifications, on each new post throughout this series of polls.

The winners will be posted on a separate post, as well as on this post.

DvlDog, you're out of control.  I can't even imagine how much time you put into your posts/polls.  Anyway, thanks.

I voted for Matty Nokes, and I can't believe that anyone else is better.  Gary Carter is definitely second and sorry, Gedman is #3.  But those two guys aren't even close to Matty.  He can go deep at any time and he's left-handed.  Carter and Gedman are righties and extremely prone to hitting pussy fly balls or grounding into the dreaded 6-4-3 DP.  Nokes is the catcher of all catchers, even if you included the All-Star teams (Santiago and Schroeder.)  It really isn't close.  I'm not sure this is even debatable.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

I voted for Carter, a great righty to have hittiing behind Straw.  I'd have to go with Gedman second and Nokes third.  I always had a bit of a knack with Pena, but to me Carter outshines every other catcher by far.
I don't know what I'm doing.

I will definately vote and again I applaud the ridiculous complexity of your posts.  Man I like to read books on astophysics and then get on here to cool my steamy noggin down.  Guess I should start using porn or something for that since you have upped the IQ on here.  Anyways, won't this voting system take like 2 years to finish the poll?  Oh well I am in.

doveRBI

Also, what happens after that year is up you have your all time team and realize that they are the Tigers + Jim Rice?

GDavis

It's gotta be Carter over Nokes.  Carter's a better hitter and his man-perm gives him bonus points.

First off dvldog, this is a great thread.  It's good to get some generated RBI discussion!

No surpise here (since my rankings are posted) I went for Nokes.  I think most straight-pitch people would agree that the slight power edge for Carter is nullified by the lefty-factor.  Too many DPs for Carter...

Gedman is definitely worthy, he might be best one-game catcher when hot.  That fuck will go yard 4 straight ABs when he's on.  But he isn't on all the time...

Edit - I would probably give at least two weeks before you lock these votes.  We have our group of regulars and other guys who come by every week or two.  I think two weeks would be better to get another 6-10 votes in.  Maybe do a new poll every week, but wait two weeks before you lock them.  Up to you though, it's your baby...

Edit 2 - I would probably change the title to say, RBI's All-Time Team, Catcher.  You agree?  That way when you get multiple polls in here, they can be sifted through.

My Top 3 in order:

1)Carter
2)Nokes
3)Gedman

After that...WHO CARES!

Gotta go with Kid, if he doesn't have a good game NY usually won't win.

I hate Nokes. Never clutch. He's only good for a homerun after somebody else clears the bases.
I go with Boone because he comes up big when you least expect it.
You're going down, chainsaw.

Sperling

I'll take Matt Nokes for a dollar.

Gantry

Actually, we've all been itching to talk RBI.  It's good to have fresh blood like yourself to generate discussion...

RockRaines4life

I have to give my vote to Nokes- he always hits more HRs for me than Garry.  It seems like whenever Carter is up with a runner on base he bounces a DP ball to third.  The one strike against Nokes however is that he grounds out to rightfield more than all the other players combined.  This is a really sweet idea, by the way.
What a horrible night to have a curse.

Gantry

I would go with Darrell Evans as the worst groundball-out-to-RF, but Matty is definitely my #2.  Lips and Pots don't like it when they get the back-to-back gb2rf plays with Nokes & Evans.  They are the Bash Brothers of outfield groudouts...

GDavis

Are groundouts to RF that common for you guys?  I can only remember it happening once in my entire RBI career!

Gantry

Pretty common in straight pitch - you have a lefty up and typically a runner on first.  Since the lefty hit is so common you are expecting a hard grounder to right.  Pick it up and throw fast.  You have to be prepared for it though...

Gantry

If Armas did it, then it must be a screwed up swing.  You're not telling me you've had a groundball out to LF have you?  I've tried many a times and haven't come close...

Now the groundball to 3rd and having him beat Armas to first base is my specialty.  I've only done it against one other player, but can't remember who.  Potsie?

Gantry

QuoteI work with a kid who swears he's thrown runners out at first from left field...never seen it, though.  But the claim is out there, none the less.

I don't think I can believe it.  I've never been closer than 1-2 steps and I've played a few almost as well as you can.  I'm willing to accept the pitcher homer even though it's never happened to us, but this one would be a "show me the money"

Gantry

But these Armas groundouts to OF were to right field, correct?

BeefMaster

I'm willing to buy the pitcher wallsie... I've seen them come mildly close before, so I can believe that it's possible.  The in-the-parker isn't too hard to do against the computer (my usual opponent, since I don't have a human opponent in town anymore).  Usually, it's a slow roller - the computer will chase it with the pitcher just enough to get his shortstop out of position, then chase it with the shortstop until the OFs are out of position, finally letting it get just past the OF, who's not fast enough to get it before it hits the wall.  It's rarely a close play at the plate, even with a pitcher's speed.  You could say it's because of errors, since the fielding was fairly inept, but there aren't any bops or bad throws.

As for throwing a guy out from LF, no freaking way, even with Armas.  I've thrown guys out from RF plenty of times, but even that is usually only by a couple of steps, and I've never even had a close play from CF.  I've seen the out at first from computer stupidity, like dvldog mentioned, but that's a completely different thing.
