Well after three years of near daily RBI, it finally happened today.  I was the RedSox, playing my roommate JRob, he was the Mets.  Gooden pitching to Bruce Hurst... he ripped one right down the line that didn't arc at all.  It went through the wall at the foul pole (about 3/4 of the way up the wall) for the first pitcher homerun I have ever seen.  JRob was so demoralized I ended up hitting 10 homeruns against him and cruised to an easy win.  I know its been discussed before, but how many other people out there have actually hit a HR with a pitcher?
What a horrible night to have a curse.

I swear on Donnie Moore's grave that I, RockRaines4life, hit a homerun on December 19, 2003 with Bruce Hurst against Doc Gooden.  It was one of the greatest moments of my life.
What a horrible night to have a curse.

Never done it.  Hurst has some pop.  The pitcher HR is the white whale of RBI.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

I have some great property in FLorida that you might be interested in?

I hate to go around calling people liars.
But you're a liar!

Just kidding--I hope it's true. It gives hope to all of us.

no not possible. Reggie Jackson will go back to the Hall of Fame and change his yankees cap in for a A's cap before a pitcher hiots a homerun in RBI

RockRaines4life

Hey, I understand everyone might not believe its true, because it is so rare.  But this homerun took place in the playoffs of our third season, each season being 27 games for each team.  That means we have played over 400 games of RBI in the last two years.  This is the first time I have ever witnessed a pitcher HR, in probably about 1000 games of RBI in my life.  I should also mention that we always throw straight down the middle to opposing pitchers, in an effort to eventually see what we witnessed this afternoon.  I hope my history as a poster here gives me some credibility.

I believe that it can happen even though I've never seen it and also have played in the 1000 game range.  It is funny that this topic got so much response so fast.

Because we pitch down the middle to pitchers we have had some close calls before.  Viola hit one that bounced off the base of the wall once, but the computer chose not to make it a wallzie for some reason.  I wish I had somehow been recording the game when it happened.

No offense Rock, but this is the kind of thing we have to see to believe.  That being said, I'm curious if the pitch you hit was a fastball or a regular pitch or blooj.  Gooden's got some heat, so maybe the velocity of the pitch effects how far it is hit?

RockRaines4life

It was a regular pitch... we always give the opposing pitcher a regular pitch down the middle of the plate.  I understand that you might not believe me, but I don't have a system set up to record RBI so you'll just have to take my word for it or remain skeptical of the fact that pitchers can indeed hit wallzies.  Hopefully it can happen for everyone at some point during their RBI careers.  I suggest instituting our down the middle rule to pitchers.  It took us two years of down the middle pitches but we finally got it.

Lies....i'm watching you rock.  careful.

Hang on.  We have discussed this many times.  We have established that pitchers can hit walzies like you just discribed.  I myself have bombed a walzie with B. Saberhagen off Uncle Jesse Orosco.  That can be done but is rare.  No one has ever hit a legit over the fence shot with a pitcher though.  I will also echo that this is probably the touchiest subject in all of Dee-Nee land.

RockRaines4life

I think Dove has it right on.  The HR was a wallzie, as I said, about 3/4 of the way up the wall and right down the line.  I don't know that an over the fence HR by a pitcher is impossible but I have certainly never witnessed it.  How rare are pitcher wallzies?

That pitcher walzie that I hit was the only one I have ever seen.  I have no clue how many games I have played but certainly more than 500.  Maybe if someone has a better estimate of how many games they have played we could guess the average ab's per games for pitchers and come up with a ratio.  Just from previous conversations a few of us have witnessed/performed a pitcher walzie, but no one has ever reported hitting an over the wall blast.  I once thought I saw one but my buddy reminded me that I was drunk and it was just a walzie.

vgp100

I've never seen a pitcher wallzie. I think it's bullshit.

Is there some way to post a picture of it or an animation - to prove it?

Impossible.  How would we know that it wasn't a ROM where someone jacked up the pitcher's hitting stats?

RockRaines4life

As far as my HR today goes, I don't have anything hooked up to my TV to record NES... but maybe a video capture of a pitcher wallzie exists somewhere.
