I just sent this e-mail to Gantry:

****************

I stumbled onto this secret the other day.  I am not sure if it is known to anyone over the internet yet.  I've been trying to find it.  I know it isn't in the manual.

Here is the basic secret.

There are certain times in RBI Baseball when you can pinch hit for the pitcher and the pitcher will stay in the game for as long as you want!

So far I have found 8 examples when this works (I imagine there are examples for every team, I just started looking for these a day or two ago).

As far as I can tell, it only works when you have ONE pitcher left in the bullpin.  And it depends on who is pitching and who is in the bullpin.  Here are my results so far.

American All Stars:
Righetti is pitching and Saberhagen is the only pitcher left in the bullpin (you can pinch hit for Righetti and he will still be pitching in the game!)

National All Stars:
Sutcliffe is pitching and Valenzuela is the only pitcher left in the bullpin (you can pinch hit for Sutcliffe and he will still be pitching in the game!) OR Valenzuela is pitching and Sutcliffe is the only pitcher left in the bullpin (you can pinch hit for Valuenzuela and he will still be pitching in the game!)

California:
Witt is pitching and Sutton is the only pitcher left in the bullpin (you can pinch hit for Witt and he will still be pitching in the game!) OR Sutton is pitching and Witt is the only pitcher left in the bullpin (you can pinch hit for Sutton and he will still be pitching in the game!)

Boston:
Hurst is pitching and Clemens is the only pitcher left in the bullpin (you can pinch hit for Hurst and he will still be pitching in the game!)

Detroit:
Morris is pitching and Hernandez is the only pitcher left in the bullpin (you can pinch hit for Morris and he will still be pitching in the game!)

NY Mets:
Ojeda is pitching and Orosco is the only pitcher left in the bullpin (you can pinch hit for Ojeda and he will still be pitching in the game!)

I am hoping these codes will be of help to you in future games of RBI.  I stumbled on it about two days ago when I pinch hit for Valenzuela and noticed the game didn't ask me to take him out in the next inning.  It's a neat little secret.  I am not sure if this has been publicized anywhere yet.  I was hoping you can mention this on your site so that fellow gamers can more completely discover exactly what pitchers this secret will work for.

We've had that happen before, every once in a while, but we usually notice it and force them to sub out the pitcher.

Also, we tend to only sub the pitcher's out when they're tired, so there would really be no advantage for using this.

Great find never-the-less though.

Are you sure this works every time, very cool find if it is true?

Nightwulf any evidence of this in the code?

I know for sure it works every time in 2 player mode.  I haven't tried it against the computer.

I agree with Attezz that it's a bit useless, but I will probably spend a few days trying to find out exactly what pitchers this works for.

The only way it can be helpful is if, say, you are in later innings, you have Hurst in and Clemens is still in the bullpin, and Hurst is still pitching strong but you want a better pinch hitter in there.  Then you pinch hit for Hurst and he can still pitch strong until he goes, then you bring in Clemens....

The only bad thing is that it forces you to choose your pitching rotation based around it.

I'm pretty sure we can all agree that there will never be a time in later innings where Hurst is pitching strong and Clemens is still in the bullpen.

Reds

Also, odds are the only pinch hitter left, sucks dick anyways since hendu, Armas, and Burks would all be subbed in already.

Gantry

Nice work gamme, thanks!

Keep the research up, because I'm fairly certain that we gotten this sub glitch with relievers as well.  I could be wrong on that, but I remember for Cali having it happen with Corbet pitching...

Also, I'm pretty sure that this glitch only happens when you are player one...

Keep up the good work though, let us know what you find out!

I have no idea, it was just the first google image that popped up when "bullpin" was entered.

This is a pretty big discovery.  I see this as the RBI Baseball version of the Dead sea Scrolls

gamme

Alright, a few things.

First off, Gantry is right, this only works for the 1st player controller.  This also forces me to start back from scratch because I assumed certain player combinations wouldn't work and that was just because I was using the 2nd controller.

Secondly, it works against the computer as well as in 2 player mode.

I found two more examples that work with California:

Corbert with Sutton as the only pitcher left to choose from
Corbert with Witt as the only pitcher left to choose from

Oddly enough, Corbert with Moore as the only pitcher left to choose from will not trigger the glitch.  This means it's definately dependent on both the pitcher pitching and the single pitcher left in the bullpin.  I haven't discovered an example that works if two pitchers are left to choose from.  I'm not sure if this will work.  Once I get this done completely (it might take weeks, for every set of 4 pitchers there are 12 combinations of one pitcher left to choose from).  Also, I'll have to check if it will ever work with two pitchers left to choose from and so on.  That's why I'm hoping someone else will be willing to work with me on this so we can cover more ground.

good find and welcome to board gamme.  second, it's bullpen, bullpEn.

has anyone tried this with the rom yet?  i'm assuming gamme's work is all console.  it's just good to cover all the bases.

this is an interesting find and it will surely challenge the players of anything goes and the ethics of "if the game gives it to you..."

I say that if you are a true ATG style player, this should be allowed.
Not sure this will give you much of an advantage though since you must use pitchers you might not ordinarily use in order to take advantage of the glitch.

Seems like a lot of work for just one extra ab from one of your shittier PHs.

nightwulf, any evidence of this glitch in any of the research you've done?

That sums up most of it. I'm sure it's there, and I looked at substitutions a bit (in preparation for a never-completed DH rule), but I'd need to look specifically for it. A 100% reproducible test case would help immensely.

I've not seen Gantry's wang, though I certainly hope to in Chicago. I don't mind the Go-Gos. I prefer a crisp DDP in the morning.
