Who cares about the number of fouls balls? If you knock a pitcher out of the game by wearing him down, I think that is a legitimate strategy.

I do have one question - why did the Captain bring in Tony Armas to pinch hit in the sixth inning for his pitcher after opening up a seven run lead? It just doesn't make sense.

The Legend

The Captain

Was not trying to wear out Nicks Pitcher....

As to the Tony Armas situation I think Dave Henderson and Burks are much better hitters than him.  l

Gantry

I can see fouling off pitches as a legit strategy in curve, but in straight pitch it is downright annoying.  That's why we have drinking rules - every foul ball after the 3rd in a row is a drink...

fknmclane

In my living room, every foul ball after the third is either a drink, a punch in the arm or a slap in the face.  If those three don't deter, it's a full beer or a kick in the nuts.
We play slurve (it has to end up a strike) and I can wear out a pitcher in the first inning if I really want to.  No joke.  It just isn't fair in our style of pitching.

we play "If you don't want me to continue to foul off pitches and make your pitcher tired, then make me miss."

But that's with curve style.  And we typically only attempt this with the pitcher...base hits are too precious, as you're pretty much trading an out for a ton of foul balls to tire the P.

Gantry

mclane, is slurve a term for curve balls that have to be a strike?

x96halaris

That's it...The captina will be slapped or kicked after every three foul balls.  Infield fly rule was created because teh Legend got screwed...
