If you hit more up or back in the hitters box, does it increase or decrease your chances of hitting a homerun? Or is it all where on the bat you hit it?

dvldog

I try to stay back in the box if a pitcher is slowing down, and have hit more homers that way.

I also think you can hit more homers if you jerk back while swinging - if you hit it in the right spot.

Mostly talking outta my ass though.

doveRBI

I hit up in the box, less curve and it makes me believe I can hit with more velocity.  That is just my bullshit wish though.

I think everyone has their own personal style when it comes to pitchers and batters.  For me, I'll begin moving my batter ieither up-down and left right quickly as the pitch is thrown then I'll swing.  Of course it's alot easier to hit homers with a guy like Darryl Evans, he can mash the ball on a check swing.
I don't know what I'm doing.

ultimate7

I usually hit up in the box, but will move back in the box with 2 strikes or if I'm swinging at bad pitches.  Being backs helps me lay off the bad pitches and I can sometimes tell if a drop pitch will actually drops before I swing

The Raiders are a successful organization

I generally stay up in the box--it's that much shorter a distance to get ti out of the park.
I also like Gantry's trick--I think he calls it the slide. In mid swing--slide your batter down--it adds a bit of extra power.

I bat up in the box, less time for breaking balls to well ... break. Also I find it helpful to "dive out over the plate" by moving the batter from middle of the box all the way to to the plate in mid-swing, maybe it's just me but I get a lot more homers that way.

The Retreat.

Gantry

Well done beefy, it is called the retreat...

We all bat at the top of the box and typically retreat in mid-pitch.  When a pitcher gets very slow some stay at the top and don't retreat.  It's virtually impossible for me to bat at the bottom of the box....

fknmclane

It's impossible to bat at the bottom.  You just foul everything off.
I stay at the top of the box 95% of the time and the other 5% use The Retreat just to fuck with my opponent.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

I bat at the top almost all the time...the only exception is when I've been swinging at bad pitches.  Also, I only use the "Retreat" with a couple players (Man Perm and JClark).  JC seems to benefit the most from it.

The retreat is definately not a gimmick.  I works.  However, I have found that some players the retreat doesn't work for, Chet Lemon to name one.  IMO, if you retreat with Lemon he blows.  THat is why I normally sub him out.  But for 90% of the hitters, the retreat does work.  It would be impossible to retreat in curve pitch.  Or very very hard.

doveRBI

Why has no one mentioned "The Tettleton" in a while.  I use that technique 90% of the time.  Am I the only one?  How can I teach it to my fantasy RBI'ers?

vgp100

Vit, with Lemon, I leave him in and use the Tettleton stance. For some reason, it gives him special powers.
Seriously, it works.  Also try it on Dwight Evans and Bergman.

VGP!  That is amazing.  We were typing a Tettleton message at the exact same time.  Dee-Nee!

That is amazing.
I also  think it's more amazing that we agree on something.

Briznock

I usually use the term Oquendo for this stance. Is this acceptable??? When i feel like using it Ill call TIME and usually the opponent allows me to get it set up.  I only use it when im in a slump at the plate.  which happens quite often around here due to our curve pitching and our severe case of itchy trigger thumb.

doveRBI

No that is not the same thing.  Calling time to do an Oquendo is obviously busch league.  The Tettleton is done by a player with finesse with no stoppage of action needed.

vgp100

I actually call it the "cocked bat".
As in "I'm going to cock my bat now"
It just sounds funnier.

vgp100

I wonder what would happen if I cocked it with Dick Schofield.
"If you thought Dick could hit, wait till you see him cocked"
"Wait for Dick to cock it"
