The Reds built a 13-7 lead in the 5th but the Braves whittled it away and pulled ahead 17-13 after 7.

SF 13 SL 3 (6 inn)   
Bill Terry came inches from being the first non-starter to hit 2 HRs in a game in a 7 run 5th inning for the Giants

Chc 18 LA 11   
The Cubs got 8 in the 3rd off a tiring Koufax to pull ahead 11-6, the Dodgers cut it to 12-11 in the 7th mostly off a tiring Sutcliffe, but Sutter pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief and the Cubs added on in the 8th.

There 5-6-7 hitters have a combine 2 HRs (both by Boyer in game 17) so basically they have 3 hitters (Hornsby, Musial, and JClark) that have like 35 of thier 40 HRs and no other production.  That said, they should still be as good or better than Houston

Also the #3 guy on St. Louis Bench who has about 7 ABs all year is tied for 4th on the team in HRs not a good sign

Houston fought to stay in this game after being down 11-5 in the 4th to tie it at 17 going to the 9th but up 18-17, Gene Tennace hit a 3 run HR with 2 out in the top of the 9th to put the game away.

Atl 16 Bo 6 (5 inn)   
The Braves scored in every inning in the blowout.   
HRs:   Murphy, Torre(2), Johnson, Doerr, Williams, Horner

Cin 15 SL 11   
The Reds Recovered from an early 10-4 deficit to get the win   
HRs:   Hornsby, Drissen, J. Clark, Pinson, Concepcion, Bench

Chc 23 SF 17   
Each team scored in 8 of 9 innings but the Cubs were in control most of the way, as the Giants cut it to 18-16 after 7 but couldn't get much closer

LA 10  NYY 0 (2 inn)   
A 2 out Grand Slam in the 2nd gave LA a 7-0 lead and they added 3 more in the 2nd.  Pee Wee Reese turned an unassisted DP in the bottom of the 2nd to help end the game early.

The Braves were able to end the A's 12 game win streak by hitting 7 HRs

Hou 10 NYY 9   
The Stros got 5 in the 8th thanks to some nice PHs to take a 10-8 lead and their pitching was good throughout, Yogi Berra was thrown out trying to stretch a single to a double to end the game.

SL 9 Bo 3   
Gibson pitched a complete game and the RedSox offense continues to be the most suprisingly ineffective (along with the Giants)

Cin 17 Chc 16     
The Cubs had a 16-11 lead to start the bottom of the 9th and the Reds were down 16-13 with 2 outs and no one on when consecutive BOPs by Banks and Sandberg set up a 3 run tying HR by George Foster, then Pete Rose drove in Tony Perez to win the game.

In a big game for 2 teams trying to stay in the playoff race and it was a back in forth game 14-13 Yanks going to the 9th when the Giants got 7 off Gossage taking the lead on a 2 run shot from Bobby Bonds
