if you had to choose,  who would you take to win a game in the bottom of the ninth...  as far as i know they both have to be pretty rusty seeing as how they dont get much playing time.  i would have to go with santana because pedriq is a discrace to allstars everywhere.

I wouldn't know, the last time i've not pinch hit for either player was probably in 1988.  If I had to choose I'd say pedriq cuz i think he's funnier.

i wonder how they would do if we actually let them sniff the field...  they never have been given a chance to showcase their stuff...  their numbers might suck but maybe they are grinders like craig counsell...  after all, his numbers suck but he is always on winning teams... except when he was with the doyers....  and you know my bias there.    BEAT LA!

It's funny that this topic came up, yesterday I was playing and for the FIRST time ever I let Pedriq play.

He has never batted for me ever:

In 3 at-bats before I yanked him, he hit one ball good, a 1 hop ground-out to short. This was also a striaight pitch game. HE BLOWS.

I hope no-one was expecting a happy ending to that story.

That is a tough call, and like most I cannot remember the last time I kept Pedrique in.  Kept Santana in a couple times for laughs and he lives up to his billing.  I cannot see anyone worse than Santana, I would pinch hit Orosco for him if I could...

id say taht id have to go with santana...strictly because i feel for the guy...he never gets used...pedriq only made the squad because ozzie was taken on the cardinals already...and t never ever lets santana hit...and i always give him shit for that....rafi deserves his chance to shine...and get ready america...cause he will gleam
A couple of jesters? In the court of the king! IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME?!?!?!?

from now on, i am going to keep santana in the lineup...  just so he knows that he has the job...  after all, a little job security goes a long way as far as confidence goes... we'll see if it affects his numbers... as for ped-reek,  he smells and definately belongs on the bench...  i bet most people on the forum dont even know what team he played for...

I don't care what team Al played for.  But I'll make some guesses, LA, SD, or PIT?  Hell, I don't know.  I let Santana play almost every game.  I have never had any luck with Teufel or HoJo, so I leave Raf in.  It seems like every game he will hit a blooper over the 3rd baseman's head for a double.  It also seems that he hits a lot better with runners in scoring position.

Al Pedrique was on the Pirates at the time of RBI, and it looks like he never actually made the All-Star team.  I figured he did (hell, if Mike Sharperson can make it!) but the RBI people screwed up again.  Here are the lifetime stats, read them and weep:

I think he deserves to be a FAQ question - Who the hell is Pedriq on the NL All-Stars?

he definately doesnt scare opposing pitchers the way others in that lineup does... he must have made the team cause he can pick it with the glove.

I think we should include Spike Owen onto this list.  Boston's bench is unbelievable, so I've hontestly batted with Owen maybe once.  I think I would give Santana the nod out of all the three, just because I think he has a little more speed.  But as for the comedic factor, Pedriq is off the charts.  One time I hit an inside the park homer with Pedriq against my friend (who is terrible), and he never heard the end of that one.

giving up an inside the park homerun to pedriq should be grounds for retirement...  the guy will never get a chance to showcase his skills or lack there of due to the great subs that the NL stars has on its bench.    spike owen has the advantage in that he is lefthanded...  and there is always an opportunity for the lefty hit.

While in the process of moving i found an old baseball sticker book that had al predrique on the page of "rookie all-stars".  Perhaps a programmer saw this and confused it with the actual all star team, and thats why we have pedriq in the 8 hole.

that would explain it... although... i was trying to figure out what other shortstop could have made the allstar team behind the wizard...  there werent any good ones at that time.

Look no further than the FAQ:

http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml#PEDRIQ

" So why did the RBI people put Pedrique on the NL All-Stars? My guess is that their first choice, Ozzie Smith (the starting All Star in 1987), was already on the St. Lous roster. The backup shortstop that year was Hubie Brooks of Montreal. He didn't make it because either (a) the programmer for the NL team was ahead of his time in disliking Canadians or (b) Hubie Brooks had sex with said programmer's wife/girlfriend/mother/sister. That opened the door for Al Pedrique...  "

well that makes perfect sense...  i guess pedriq deserves his moment in the sun.  i have been so busy with school this last month i havent been able to get a game in... but when i do, i will make sure that rafy santana gets his chance as well.
