The current search feature sucks. Would it be possible to make a sticky thread with the most frequently made topics? I'm just talking about the RBI forum actually. Since I'm new I have no idea what topics you guys have covered or talked about that would be redundant. It'd be far easier to have a sticky thread with some of the "official" threads like Team rankings etc.... versus relying on the search feature. Just a thought if you wanted a new arrivals opinion.

You could have something like:

Team Rankings [just for ranking the teams]
Best player?
Best PH?
Worst Team
Best Pitcher/Worst Pitcher
Curve or Straight pitch?
Team Breakdown [for talking about how people play a certain team not ranking it]

^I'm sure these have been discussed to death and I'm sure there's threads on all of topics, but from a new user's POV it's freaking impossible to find out some of this shit. I was happy to find a site that had an RBI forum but have found that since I haven't been here for years and can't find some of this shit.....even with the search feature, people bitch about topics being redundant. It would definitely help people find their way around IMO. I like the site but it's a navigational nightmare to be honest.

The problem is that there is enough of these discussion threads that we'd have the whole first page be stickies which would suck.

What we need is some sort of Hall of Fame Forum to pull these threads out

have you tried using two words or a quoted phrase in the search?

Mr. Blubbo

A Hall of Fame forum would be an excellent idea.  We could have a direct link to all threads that answer frequently asked questions about RBI as well as threads that explain the nooks and crannies about being part of the Dee-Nee fraternity such as aviators, Mike Vike, lemonparty etc...

I have no problem making said thread, if someone else hunts down the top RBI threads with name and link.  Reply below with links to threads and the name of the threads themselves as the link name.  Once we have a good chunk, I'll put it into one post and make it a sticky/locked thread in the RBI board...

And I think the server is running slow, Zach Morris, Mike Vike, etc., etc.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Instead of making it in the RBI board, I think you should make a Hall of Fame Links board available from the main page, perhaps above "NEWS".

I'll start it off:

Original Mike Vike thread

Use this format so I can cut/paste easily...

I think the instructions for how to do this belong in said sticky thread...

Well technically you wouldn't need the entire first page being stickies, that's why the first post in the sticky thread would have like 5..10...20 threads linking to each individual thread or whatever number. That way it wouldn't matter if say the "team ranking" thread wasn't posted in for 2 weeks and got moved back to the 4th page, then when someone new showed up....like in my case....could just go to the sticky thread.

Just a thought anyways.

And yeah.......I don't just use one word while searching.

i hope we're not dumbing down dee-nee by doing this.  part of the charm in becoming a dee-nee'r is to spend hours scouring threads and getting to know other posters by their musings and grumblings.  it is only through constant reading and reviewing posts that one can get to know us and learn all there is to know about rbi.

although, i suppose it is a good compromise for those who do not wish to make dee-nee a full-time job.  slackers...

Yeah I don't want to dumb it down either......but put yourself in a newbies spot. You think the forum is going to attract and keep new users when some of the jagoffs here post a link or mention the search feature to threads that aren't even in the first 5 pages? I'm not even close to being a newb to message boards, but the reception I got when I first started posting wasn't exactly gracious. Shit......right after my first post I got called a sock of MR RBI or whatever.

My mistake was that I was excited to find a message board about a topic where I didn't think one would exist, thus I made about 5 threads right off the bat. I used the search feature plus looked through the first 5 pages and didn't see the topics I made. The site doesn't need to be dumbed down by any means, but it does need to be made more user friendly for new people. All that would be required in a sticky thread would be just the most popular/frequent threads. Basically the kind of threads a new arrival would look at or start if they joined up. Probably wouldn't have more than 10 thread links I would imagine.

and all that crap sarc mentioned and a private forum too.

that's the fun of being a nub. i'd guess about 80% of my first posts were mocked because they could be answered in the FAQ, an old thread, or the site itself.

besides, nothing better than spending a friday night living in 2003.
