Why all the negative talk about Davey Lopes?  He is the man.  Speed, hits for average and power, and a good glove wherever you put him.  I like to sub him as the 1st batter, to give him more at-bats and to utilize his speed. But lately he has been in for Gina Davis.  Just as much power if not more, plus he has speed.  Puhl in the 3 hole gives you tons of speed in the first 6 batters (with Davey hitting cleanup).  Puhl's not the fastest guy in hte world, but he has good baserunning smarts and, hell, he is not Walling.

Oh yeah, back to pinch hitters.  Oquendo hit back-to-back pinch hit homers last time around.  I put Lake in as a joke one game for Herr, and he had a quality game.  Even hit a homer or two.  Davidson sucks, so does Youngblood, Heep is good, Sullivan sucks.

dill i never considered yanking gina davis only because he is the only "legitimate" power.  however, i am convinced that the guy flat out blows and does deserve some down time.  maybe he has become complacent thinking nobody is going to take his job.  this might give him some incentive to play harder... i will give it a whirl.  as for davey,  the guy is in a mondo slump...

When games are going badly, we like to "send a message" and bench some of the stars (not that Gina is a star in any way), but just to show them that their jobs are not insured against loss, theft, or seizure.  Gina sucks balls and never decided to win her job back.  I took her out just to send the message, but Davey loved hitting cleanup.  Plus the opposing catcher doesn't think that a cleanup batter will steal, so he sits back on his heels, which gives Davey a couple of steals of second.

Some very interesting Houston strategies...

Looks like I'll have to give Lopes more of a chance.  I typically put Terry Puhl Day at the leadoff spot because he hits the bombs.  Garner will go 7 and Thon goes 8, but from what I've been reading Reynolds deserves a go in the seven spot.  If we ever get some non-drinking games in, I'll put some of these new Astro strategies a go and see how they turn out...

Gantry, Reynolds must stay in, muchas pop. I only take out Ashby, put in Puhl, Garner saved for pinch hit bomb late in the game.

There's no way I can keep Hatcher in with our straight paitch games, he blows.  But Reynolds will get a few chance to prove himself...

pines,  why are you so high on billy hatcher... he is a typical lead off man as far as rbi is concerned... great speed, no stick and always hits it in the air.

Couple of things.  Reynolds can only hit off of righties.  Almost worthless against the southpaws.  And Hatcher always stays in our games.  We have to manufacture runs, and he is a good candidate to get on, then steal second, the get moved over on a bunt or a grounder to the right side, then score on a hit or sac fly.  If he can do that twice a game, he is worth his weight in curvy RBI.

hatcher's speed would be beneficial if the guy ever hit one on the ground... too bad for him he can't get on top of the ball and hits them in the air.  terry puhl is a great lead off hitter with an OB% near .400.

i have noticed that reynolds might be in need of a platoon vs. lefties...  maybe that is a spot for dickie.

I guess you are just going to have to learn how to hit with Hatcher, because he gets on all the time.  He's a force.

I can't ever see him being a force in straight pitch, but it's good to know he can hang in curve style...

goes unsaid that billy might get it done for you guys but he is on strike for me...  oh well, the way puhl is playing right now he will never get his job back.

Terry Puhl Day is a monster in the leadoff spot, I don't think I could ever permanently replace him with Hatcher.  Has anyone seen Puhl and Wilfong in the same room together?

Post #1000 in the RBI Forum...

considering that you and i have supplied more than half of those postings... dont you think i should become an moderator?

anyways, terry puhl is good, billy hatcher is not...

gina davis has become complacent... thus, he sits for phil garner.

the stros have played well since these moves were made.

Appreciate the offer, but these boards pretty much run themselves so far and another moderator isn't needed at this time.  I've only modified one post out of 1000+ and there are no flamewars or idiot posters, yet.  But if the time does come where more moderators are needed, you are the primary canidate...

As much as I hate Geena Davis, I can never quite pull the trigger and take him out.  It is probably for the best though since he's really a 7 hitter batting cleanup...

geena davis will never live up to his performance in A League of Their Own where he dominated as a catcher.  too bad he has since become a punch and judy first baseman...  i think I am keith hernandez has more pop than that bitch.

kevin bass in the 5 hole is pretty weak too.

my most recent sucess with the stros, a veritable power surge by scoring around 5 runs a game....was provided by having lopes lead off.....leaving in 2-6...i may get some weird looks here...but cruz is a solid .300 hitter...walling proves that the sun does shine on the dogs as some days and hits a dinger....geena is always a threat to go deep....bass is one of the new masters of the "dink fuck" shot to left...and billy doran kills t...he is my catylist...after that, i put in garner, followed by phul...and just for the record....ashby is the worst player of all time...he may be a solid catcher, but he has dropped below sullivan because i got a hit with sullivan the other day....have yet to grab one with ashby....
A couple of jesters? In the court of the king! IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME?!?!?!?

Gwynn3k

sullivan is still the shittiest as far as i am concerned...  boston would be better off with only three pinch hitters.

amen gwynn...in the way we play, i keep in the pitcher because i know im getting a straight pitch...and you can punch it through the hole....but with sullivan, youre just getting an out....
