bban (boston) and i (houston) are locked up in a best-of-seven set currently, and my astros are up 2-1. we could be 3-0, if it weren't for a three run game-winning blast off the bat of jim rice in game two. the recap:

game 1:

jose cruz belts a homer down the right field line in the first inning, and it stands. houston wins 1-0. mike scott is god. armas sucks.

game 2:

the stros jump on clemens for three runs in the first - one knocked in by cruz who is having a monster series - and are up 3-1 in the ninth when dsmith throws a fastball with less cheese than usual on the outside corner that rice takes into the stands with two on. the play before that, my shortstop threw to the wrong base on a force out (my fault - not a major glitch)

game 3:

the stros win 3-2, and hold off another late surge by the chowdas.

wish me luck, boys.

granted...all is true on t's posts....i am down 2-1...i have been faced with three of the most dominating performances off of the mound that ive ever seen...however, after a closed door team meeting today, the chowdahs are ready to strike...they have been anemic from the plate...tony "the art of hitting" armas has not done his job...nor has henderson...two usual backbones for me....but RBI has been there...baylor will come around and i can always count on go go....beware t.....the sox are coming

i am going to have to go with the chowds on this one... the stros are just too futile to compete with the sawx in a 7 game series...

whatever hope i had initially for this series was gone quick, and the stros lost three straight to the mighty chowdas to drop my managerial record (bban and i estimated) to about 42-150.

sure it looks bad, but keep in mind most of the games were played with the cardinals. 42 lifetime wins with that club should earn me manager of the century status.

the only highlight in the series post-game three was a two run double by nolan ryan off of roger clemens.

but t...you are forgetting such other highlights as rogers run scoring and game tying double off of nolan ryan in the same game....tony armas' bat coming to life and rich gedman, the working man's mvp, showing why hes one of the most dangerous and feared hitters of all time, the best catcher ever??...i think so....

but let us not forget other series played last night...the tigers thusly swept the new york mets...tom brookens asserted his hall of fame status with another climatic performance....the mets pitched well generally, but were overmatched by both alexander and morris...mookie wison was not on his game and it showed.....gary carter gained a new nickname, nell...

but by far the hightlight of the evening came in the next series...where todd, obviously spitting into the wind, chose the houston astros again to take on the tigers...and after a play where he failed to run down kirk gibson between first and second, threw the ball into left center and allowed gibby to score...he was heard to mutter quite loudly "those bunch of stupid fuckers"....ESPN then decided to yank the mic from the astros dugout...and doyle alexander threw a 5 hit shutout.....

you guys must not get alot done playing 3 series in one day...  i am impressed...   t  just do me a favor... if bban is gonna be the tigers, take the chowds and give yourself a chance.... make it an even playing field.

i know - my dedication to the lowly cards and stros flies against most logic. i suppose i'm a sucker for the david and goliath tale i'm trying to write with these teams. when i do beat bban with either club (and mind you, it SELDOM happens) i experience a feeling of elation rarely felt.

i actually made the reverse challenge to bban a few nights ago. i told him to try being one of the lesser teams for a change, stating "you're nothing without the pop." and i believe that. he simply stammered off red-faced.

hey t....youre gonna stammer off hopeless, winless and toothless after the houston astros take it to your beloved cardinals...ive done it once and ill do it again

quite possibly the ultimate battle of futility... houston vs. st. louis...  those games are always decided by one run... but make for an exciting game nonetheless.

the grudge match is over...and this is how it went down...

game one--the astros put up 5 runs in the first innning...totally dominate the game and win 12-2 in 8 innnings...an unheard of feat by a small pop team like the stros...

game two--the cardinals roar back and take game two behind a two run shot by lindeman and knot the series at one....t is thrilled...bban, a bit unsettled

games three-five----in a word, dominance

27 innings pitched, and the astros pitching gave up but one run....they took the series...and the heart and soul of the cardinals....series co-MVP's nolan ryan and mike scott were asked to comment about their performance....they were quoted to say "listen guys, they just fucking suck"

Cardinals manager t was not available for comment after the game...but was seen leaving the stadium ripping up his lifetime contract.....

t,  you should take a step up and try the mets... yes they too suck but at least they have a better chance of hitting homeruns.  the cardinals just plain suck...  i think the dedication is comendable but it is time to move on.

Do you two guys (t and bban) have jobs?  Or go to school?  How the hell do you play so much, when it seems that 20 hours a day you are posting on this great website?  I don't know whether to be impressed by your playing or mad that my taxes are going to fund your welfare check(s) so you can play RBI and post on dee-nee all day.  I guess you gotta do something in your life.

yes, bban and i earn an honest living. we usually play nights. it starts with an innocent game or two, but because we always play best of seven series all it takes is a little prodding and shit-talking from bban to get me to finish a set. so, on average we play about 3-4 games a night.

Gotta respect the working RBI fan, it takes a lot of energy to pull that many games after working a full day...

And the blow-by-blow updates are very solid, I'll have to give more detail when we have our slugfests.   And the tourney will be televised, check your local dee-nee.com listings....

bban and t aren't exactly slugging it out when they are playing houston v. st. louis but they are dedicated nonetheless.

"are you employed sir??"

the question arises many times...im actually amazed that we get as much done with our days as we do....t goes to work everyday at an office...therefore hes on the computer all day....i work at a resturant and such...so my schedule is all over the place....we both work and find time for basketball, whiffle ball , RBI and girlfriends...my situation is a little different cause my girlfriend lives with us....however, if t gets a call from M during the game, usually the game is over or postponed for about 20 minutes....which is fine....overall, when we are both home, our egos get the best of eachother and we end up playing until like 12...then go to sleep....its actually tougher on the weekends cause we try to do other stuff....and t goes to visit  M or vice versa....but weekdays are RBIdays

I have never even met a girl that thinks RBI is ok, they all hate it.  In college it was a sincere hatred, rather scary...

My wife fucking loves the game.  Stuart brought his Nintendo up here for the week, and she plays it all the time.  She is determined to get good, but, bless her heart, she can't judge a fly ball worth a shit.  Every damn ball drops right in front of her.  Or she misses by 20 feet because she picks the wrong fielder to get the ball.  But she's learning.  Me and Stu left the house the other day, and when we got back she was playing the computer for the practice.  At least she slaughtered the computer.
