For anyone that hasn't read Moneyball, there are great references to Lenny and comparisons of him to Billy Beane.  Beane had all the talent, but thought too much.  Dykstra had just enough talent and was too dumb to not know he wasn't supposed to be a major league "star".

One of the saddest days of my childhood was the day Nails was traded for Juan fucking Samuel. Everyone knew Lenny was head and shoulders better than Mookie in decline.

The Phillies also got Roger McDowell in that trade. Samuel was ok, but he never was as clutch as Nails.
