Has anyone ever thrown a 9 inning or more no-no?

.....vs. a human?   :o

A couple years ago, my brother threw 8 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball (he gave up a couple walks).
He was Detroit and I was California.  He used a committee to do it, and I believe it was Guillermo on the mound throwing gas when Gary Pettis stepped to the plate with two outs in the ninth.  All was silent in the room, and of course none of us had mentioned that he was throwing a no-hitter.  I could have mentioned it to jinx him, but that would have been unprofessional.  Pettis cranked a 2-1 pitch to deep right, where Pat Sheridan went back to the warning track.  The damn ball bounced an inch above Sheridan's glove, hitting the wall.  Pettis wound up at 2nd for a stand-up double.  DeCinces was then retired to complete the epic one-hitter.  Have any of you done a no-no or perfect game vs. a human outside of slaughter rule games?

Pettis, of all people    ;D

The best i have ever done in a full nine inning contest was a 1 hitter as well...ive done a 7 inning no hitter against the computer with houston, but ive never done a full game no no with anyone....hats off to your brother, quite a performance....
A couple of jesters? In the court of the king! IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME?!?!?!?

I had 1 hitter the other night against this guy I was playing, he always plays me tough, had a no hitter until 9th when pettis hit a ball that bopped off my shortstop, they called it a hit.  Bullshit!

yah... i am not so sure that the official scorekeeper knows what he is doing... they are always taking hits away when outfielders bop even though it would have been a single anyway...     he must not be watching the game.

as for me...i went to the 8 with a no no against my brother, then he got lucky with mike schmidt and blooped one over my third baseman's head... that was his only hit...

Joe either you played great against the na-stars, or your brother is pretty shitty, sure you weren't playing misha?

andrew is like a conjo... he swings at everything and has just recently started being selective.   while my feat was impressive, i have to give his aggressiveness some of the credit... and no, misha has no interest in rbi...  she values her rest too much.

My friend Stuart was playing another friend of mine, and took a perfect game to 8 2/3.  I have heard the story before, but I don't remember who got the hit, or even the teams.

I almost had a perfect game with Nolan against the Mets.  Should have been a perfect game but Jose Cruz broke back when he should have moved in on the ball and Hojo got a cheap single.  This friend of mine and Dill's, named Tyler, has had some tough times against us.  The kid's not a bad player, but when it rains it pours for that guy.  Over a 7 game stretch against me, he had 24 hits.  After that series of games he went off to Kentucky and has rarely been seen or heard from again.

easy guys,  you may have ruined him for life and he might have some vendetta against rbi players.  he could be up in the hills right now planning his "return" to arkansas.

I don't think the kid could make it back to Arkansas.  The idiot doesn't know how to use cruise control!  And he is an officer in the Army!  Maybe that explains it.  He swings at everything, and he can't pitch the ball over the plate.  He is one of those guys that come out gunning and his pitchers last aboot an inning and two thirds before they start throwing meat.  Stu, is he in KY?

So from what I see, nobody has thrown the no-no?  That's rather surprising...

Obviously this has never been done in our straight pitch games...  We haven't even gotten a shutout, worst I can remember was Lips throwing down a pathetic 3 runs in last year's championships.  With Cali no less...

a no- no in straight pitch would have to be the equivilant of a shutout... for you straight pitchers.

i am going to go for a nono against my little brother after dinner...  i feel one coming on.

I don't think the no-no has an equivilant in straight pitch.  If you throw a no-no in curve RBI, your pitching is the reason it happened.  The exact opposite is true in straight pitch - if you throw a shutdown it is completely the fault of your opponent.  And they would have to be mighty terrible...

I think defense has a lot to do with throwing a near no-hitter also.  We all take defense for granted because, with practice, you can get above average defensively.  But have you played a novice lately?  And watch them totally miss routine fly balls?  It is at that point that you see how much defense matters.

Defense is definitely key, it can still make or break a game between veterans.  Some still-common mistakes are the quick throw that results in the BOP or initially moving your fielder the wrong way, thus giving up a close single...

defense is huge... the key to cutting off balls in the gaps, using the right guy to go after a tweener and of course, the quick throw on balls in the hole to get the guy by a step.

as for tonight, jimmy key went 6  1/3 innings of no hit ball, striking out 12.  unfortunately, brian downing slapped a grounder through 5.5 hole as the shortstop went to cover third...  only in rbi.

You were actually playing with an All Star team?  We never play with those guys.  No fair.  Plus it is no fun because the games become high scoring softball games.  NL baseball is the way to go.

We hardly ever play with the All-Star teams either, though we love the softball games.  Not really sure why, probably because both players have to be All-Stars for the game to be official...

i rolled the die twice and gave my brother the option... he wanted the angels over the al stars...   his choice and his loss...   we give the die the authority to determine who plays and when...   like gantry aluded to,  "variety is the spice of life".   as for dill, i agree and love the n.l. style of baseball.

The roll system is a very solid way to keep the games fresh and exciting.  I would like to use that system on occasion, but I don't think it would fly with the dee-nee crew in multiplayer situations (aka lose and give up your game).  I would have to pry Detroit from their cold, dead hands...
