2007 Dee-Nee RBI Qualifier

Today is the day of our 2007 Dee-Nee RBI Qualifier.  Three brave men will be competing for two spots in the 2007 Dee-Nee RBI Baseball Tournament TBD.  We hope to start playing at 2/3 pm.

Updated scores will be posted throughout the tourney.  Expect drunken commentary throughout, by both those playing and spectating. 

Video coverage should be in full effect, this year.  We'll be using a digital camera, in hopes to finally get video coverage on the site within hours/days.

The Competitors:

   - Lips, aka Jamie
   - Sperling, aka Mark
   - Potsie, aka Scott

Because Gantry and Rack made the finals last year, they automatically qualify for the Final Four and get to watch the others sweat it out.  Rack will probably arrive midway through the tourney.

The Format:

With only three people playing, we are going to use a round-robin format with 3 games per series.  The official RBI Drinking Game rules are strictly enforced, making booze a huge factor.  Initial matchups/positions will be chosen out of a hat between 2pm and 3pm.

Schedule (9 games):
Game 1 of each series: 1v2 (#1), then 2v3 (#2), then 1v3 (#3)
Game 2 of each series: 1v2 (#4), then 2v3 (#5), then 1v3 (#6)
Game 3 of each series: 1v2 (#7), then 2v3 (#8), then 1v3 (#9)

Game 3 team/controller determination:
1. Head-to-Head record.  If someone is (2-0) in the head-to-head
series, he gets choice.  Otherwise, goto #2.
2. Total runs in the series.
3. Total homers in the series.

Qualifiers:
Top 2 records go to the Dee-Nee RBI Tourney (aka "the semis").

If there is a 2-way tie for second at (2-4):
The player who won the series between the two, will get choice of
team/controller in a 1-game playoff to determine the final qualifier.

If there is a 3-way tie for second first at (3-3):
Game 4 of each series will be played.  The choice of team/controller
will alternate from the choice of Game 3.  If all teams tie again at
(4-4), then Game 3 & 4 will be replayed round-by-round, until two qualify.

Lips gets a grand slam from Evans in the top of the 9th to take a two run lead, then Potsie gets a walkoff homer by Rob Wilfong (4-6, 4 homers, 6 RBIs) to get the crucial first win.  Potsie right back on that horse against Sperling now...

Potsie gets five runs to start the 9th to take the lead and shuts down Hendu, Stinky Sullivan and Armas to close the game out.  THIS IS WHY WE PLAY THE GAME!!!

Slaughter in 5 innings.  It was tied 9-9 after 3 innings and Potsie just completely fell apart.  Lips just kept hitting homers and Potsie kept boiling...

If Sperling wins, me and Sperling go to the "real" tourney.
If Potsie wins, then Sperling and I play our third game...which will determine if there is a three-way tie for first or a two-way tie for second between Sperling and Potsie.  In either case, a playoff ensues.

Sperling is up 8-3 with Detroit against Boston in the top of the 2nd.

Sperling did enough to win, 17-13 over Potsie.

*My final game with Sperling was not needed, as Potsie was eliminated with 2 wins.

Me and Sperling are going onto the semis, joining Rack and Gantry, tentatively scheduled for Saturday June 16th @ 3pm.

Gotta say it was a good time at the qualifier, but then again it's always fun when there's no pressure on.  Everyone played well for the most part, Potsie had the early lead but got frustrated later on and let his play slip a little bit.  I figured that he would be the most likely to qualify, but he'll be back...

Should be a great tourney this year, gonna be in a month...
