5-man tourney.  Double elimination.  1 starting pitcher/anything goes games.  Best of 3 series play in winners bracket until championship round(*best of 5*).  2 TV's/series going at same time.

1st round losers face off in single elimination game to earn the right to play the Bye teams.

Losers bracket is single elimination play until finals of losers bracket(*best of 3*).  Champion of loser bracket then competes for the tourney championship.

crude brackets below, but it shows the match-ups

Top half of the bracket. 1st round.  Bos vs SF/NL vs Cal

Bottom half of the bracket.  1st round MIN vs DET/AL vs NY

STL and NY get 1st round byes....Houston(bye) has been officially retired from series play and always gets replaced randomly by either STL, MIN, NY or SF.  We have a game genie so NY vs NY match-up is a feasible series for us to play.

I plan to try and tape all the games so we can have some concrete stats of player averages and such once its done and the games csn be reviewed.  games are scheduled to begin friday night with a few 1st round match-ups, and perhaps an elimination game if possible.  4 of the 5 people live here, but one needs to drive in saturday morning so friday night match-ups will be fragmented.  we also need to stop for a couple hours on saturday so these jerks can watch penn state dismantle iowa.  ;D

Im trying to talk Wilfong into getting into more anything goes play so he can join in on a tourney later this winter.

Forgot to mention draft order and team selection process.  Names were randomly drawn in the order of which set of picks you can choose.

1(top) and 5(bottom)
2(top) and 4(bottom)
3(top) and 3(bottom)
4(top) and 2(bottom)
5(top) and 1(bottom)

My name was selected 1st and i choose picks 2(top) and 4(bottom).  Once all 5 have selected thier draft positions, then we will select teams.

mclane, I think 1sp is more my style.  case in point, my main nemesis went something like 4-7 or 4-8 vs me last tourney(Ny(me) vs MIN, and NY(me) vs AL.  I even used Houston to beat detroit 1-0 vs the other guy in an elimination game.

However I play those same 2 guys a couple months later getting ready for the national tourney (and id been practicing beforehand) and they both go 3-2 vs me.

while i wont grumble about the cotut style/2sp(as i like both), id love to see some sort of a 1SP national tourney go down sometime.

80's at eight

yep, i spent a long time making those.

Im contemplating going back on my 2 and 9 and going after 1 and 10.  id get 1st crack up top(Bos or NL), and would most likely get MIN(me) vs Det.  a fairly bad match-up, but with MIN's 2 starters and thier offense having a little pop to em it would require a complete dog fight effort to win, but take that series and the rest of the bracket doesnt have much to offer.  also its unknown who my oppoent would be.  1 guy i know i wouldnt want to face with det, but the others might not be as tough.

better brackets for the darkside's viewing pleasure.

damnitt...one of the guys has to work that day so i lined up a replacement, whos not gotten back with me in a few days.  another replacement is being worked on.  bad thing is the pool of people left for fill ins havent played this game in prolly over a decade.  they wont be very good.  i really dont want to go to a 4 man tourney though.

This mofo has been submarined.  One guy is a CPA and on a business trip to illinois had some car trouble.  He's not returning till tonight.  Nate cubed has the flu and wont be making the 45 minute drive back here.

That leaves 2 of us.  we're still going to play a few series for the hell of it, and he plans to start joining us next thursday for some RBI at bootleggers.

It somewhat works out since we didnt have a 5th guy in the tourney, and i can recruit that person sooner or later from the bar.

2 of us got together for best of 3 series in random match-ups.
we taped the games, so maybe i can get some box scores.

MIN @ SF.  this series went 3.  featured a couple pitcher duels in games 1 and 3, and saw Viola get 10 runned in game 2.  I hate the transition of the blow out in game 2 to a tight one in game 3.  you go from crusing in a laugher to all of a sudden in the middle of a dog fight.

AL @ NY.   I fkn hate this match up.  I lost both games in low scores.

SF @ Det.  Sweep.  SF hung tough, but detroits power proved to be too much in both games.

AL @ STL.  AL won game 1 and was on its way with a 3-0 lead in the 8th but the direct tv guy showed up to fix the dish, so the game was called.  we didnt tape the last series though.

im still rusty and struck out a shit load.  not good times.  over all went 5-3...on my way to 6-3, if we count the last game.

i think i got 45 minutes before the clones game, i'll work on them box scores

I take it you were SF?  Excellent in shutting Nice Gaetti out...that's key.  No excuse for letting Gagne HR in a tight game, however.

I'd love to watch these tapes sometime.

Yes i was SF.  Gaetti makes me nervous so i was very careful with him.  I think the gagne homer was off a tired guy.  i threw a pitch that had no movement.  it was crushed.

what would be cool if you're recording these via vhs is to run the audio to a mic so you can hear commentary from the gamers while playing the game at the same time.
