Seen this anime, a ROM hack or something new in he style of old?

Gameplay looks so similar to the original that it almost has to be a ROM hack, although there is a pretty huge amount of graphical modification (including making each player look different), so hard to know for sure.

My guess is it's a hack of a later version of Family Stadium.  The mappers for the original RBI couldn't handle that much variety in terms of player appearance - too much data.

Yesterday I kind of had an interaction with an RBIer

I'm in Dallas for a trade show and was taking with a woman from the Minneapolis area. She was talking about her kids and her daughter played HS baseball. Really cool. She was telling me about the coach of the team who used to play in the major leagues.
Said something like this
"You won't know who he is but he played years ago and had that hit in that WS for the Twins."

I immediately cut her off and asked Gene Larkin?

That's the guy. RBI legend Gene Larkin. Pretty cool
