Tom Verducci makes the case for Tim Raines for the HOF and does a damn good job.

If Verducci really wanted to knock people's socks off he should compare their stats and attributes in RBI.

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Raines will get bent over, raped, and have one broken off in him.

He's hall worthy, but he'll never get in.

BeefMaster

Raines is my favorite player in RBI - super fast, with good power.

Attezz

He's not hall worthy.

Anyone know when the results of the HOF voting take place? I know it's coming up pretty quick.

I'd say the best bets this year would be Raines, Dawson, Blyleven, and McGwire, all RBI'ers.  But I bet only one of those guys will make it, or even get close.

Next year is Rickey Henderson, he was a HOF'er a long time before he retired, he's automatic.

McGwire should at least get more votes this time than last time. 583 homers is still pretty awesome, and remember, he arrived and smacked 49 right away in 1987, when there was absolutely zero steroid talk.

Sammy Sosa is 5th on the alltime list with 609, at least he got to 600.  Might be a bit easier for him, but if he never gets in, it'll be hard to believe a 600+ homer guy not getting inducted.

Ken Griffey Jr, and Alex Rodriguez are already automatic locks, Junior needs 7 hr for 600 and A-Rod is already 17th all time with 518.

Then there's guys like Frank Thomas and Jim Thome who both surpassed 500 HR in 2007.   Do those guys deserve a HOF plaque when it's all said & done? Probably not as much as Griff or Rodriguez, but I'm thinking 500 homers might not be an automatic lock for induction anymore. But these guys are still playing, so they can add to their totals.

Then Manny Ramirez & Gary Sheffield are due to pass 500 hr in 2008. They both already have HOF numbers, but Manny has alot more seasons left and he'll be an automatic lock years from now.   I don't think Sheff would make it even with 500,

But overall I'd say Raines has the best chance this time.  Vince Coleman has the most career steals and isn't in the HOF. Raines had about 55 more career steals than Coleman and was a FAR better overall player.  I'm interested to see the voting results.

ryno

If Frank Thomas doesn't get in on the first ballot, the HoF needs to be nuked.

Dawson might get in but I'd say his chances are 20/80.

McGwire will never get in.  He wasn't a slam dunk without the sterroid mess.

nomaaa

i misread this and thought someone thought a matt nokes 2nd round draft pick was fantasy hof worthy.

I believe results are released today.  Not one of the voters from the Chicago Tribune cast a vote for Raines.  I wonder if he really pissed off the media while he was with the White Sox (as a player and coach)

The Raiders are a successful organization

Gantry

A quick look at the stats says no for me.  From age 28 on (which was 13 years of his career) he was never an elite player.  He was unbelievable at first but 13 years is a long time to not be an all-star if you're trying to make the HOF...

BREAKING NEWS:
Goose Gossage is the only person elected to the Hall of Fame. Jim Rice finishes 16 votes shy. Tim Raines gets only 24.3 percent.
Quote from: BeefMaster on 11/13/17, 08:32:00 AM
there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Attezz

I can't fucking believe Rice is gonna get in before Blyleven.

If only Twins fans were as obnoxious as Red Sox fans.

Gantry

Doesn't Rice only get one more shot?  With Henderson coming in, this may have been his last chance because of the weak field...

BDawk

McGwire gets hosed again? That's dumb...he deserves it...

McGwire will never get in.  He wasn't a slam dunk without the sterroid mess.

Are you kidding me?
He retired 5th on the all-time HR list and had the highest HR/AB ratio ever for a career.
He had almost 600 home runs in half the ABs of Hank Aaron.

I said it once and I'll say it again - stock is smart

Attezz

Too bad he wasn't even a quarter of the hitter/fielder/person that Hank was.

ryno

stellar .263 average

1636 hits is not impressive

career high 28 doubles in '87. . . all down hill after that

88-91 he never slugged .500

He hit a shit ton of homers, got a shit ton of walks (because he hit some many homers) and that's it.   He wasn't a well rounded player.

Without the 'roids, he probably gets in, but he's not a baseball immortal or anything like that.

It's freaking amazing how the percentage of his hits were homers.  Isanely amazing.

I'd probably vote for him. .. .. .but I don't think he'll ever get in.

You can't be serious.  Don't you have an altar to Ty Cobb?

Not so much an altar, more of a series of eternal flames laying in front of a picture of Cobb on an easel.
