Welcome all to the new RBI Forum!  I hope this will become the new haven for the casual and obsessive RBI fan.  And I sincerely hope this gets more traffic than the old Yahoo message board did..

Feel free to throw out an introduction here or start a new topic...

Solid pic!  I think it's time to find an appropriate one for Potsie...

Just wanted to be the first guest in this forum.  I'm not gonna say anything important just yet.  I'll be back.

Dee-Nee!
I'm even more psyched to win the RBI Tournament Y2K+2 now because of the championship belt.

It's all about the belt, don't you know?  Extra Motivation!!  That's the key, and after this year, my friend, all four us (the roommates) will have a title.

I think we should extend the tournament entries.  Unless of course you think that an outsider will take control of the belt.  Especially one that has won 3 games in a row.

Lips - You're right, fortunately for us, you're not a good Jew...

Jason - You  have been solid lately, but you have to prove yourself in the lower circuits.  Quarterly tourneys are a definite possibility.  Besides, you don't have the tolerance just yet...

Point well taken but a bird has to learn how to fly by crashing to the ground.  I propose a "qualifying" entry into the tourney with the following people.  Me, Nick, Choi and of course Potsie because he sucks.  Then the top 2 would gain entrance into the tourney.  The rest of the losers must wait until next year.  In addition, the two last place finishers in the tourney must enter the qualifying round for the following year.  This puts added pressure for placing in the tourney and for other players to get in.

And as for tolerance...I'm in training right now.  Preparation is the key.

I like your idea of having a qualifier, seems to make sense.  Choi and Nick aren't ready for the big time yet, but perhaps if they get a few tourneys under their belt...

I do like this idea very much, though perhaps we go top six out of seven and have seeds for the big show, that way three people aren't shunned.  What does everyone else think about this?

I defintely feel that the lower ranks have to get better before we open up the doors, but when you have a sport as popular as this, expansion is necessary at some point...

I have nothing against a qualifier.  The one thing I don't know is how we would do the championship tourney.  I personally like how it is run today, with a total of four people in the first round, round-robin.  The way it stands today, there's more than enough drinking that takes place in the first round (six games).  If we added just one more person to the first round, there's no way we can do a round-robin as eight games is too many for a player and too long as the first round would last for about eight hours, and that's before the two or three game final.  We would have to re-work the format of the first round, but I think the current state of the championship is the most fair, since you face-off against each opponent twice.

I think the qualifier would have to take place a month before the tourney.  What I also think should happen is the two finalists from the previous year should automatically qualify for the current year's first round of the championship.  Then the two players who took third and fourth from the previous year would be thrown into the qualifier with whoever else that wants to join.  If the qualifier turns out to be three or four people, then a round-robin (two games against everyone) is in order, like the championship tourney.  But if five show up for the qualifier (i.e., Potsie, me, Jason, Nick, and Jae), then I don't have a great answer, but this is what I thought of...  The third and fourth place finishers from the previous year would be exempt from a 1-game elimination round.  Then Jason, Nick, and Jae would rock-paper-scissors.  The one person who wins would then join Pots and I in the qualifier where the other two would have to face off in a one-game battle to see who enters the qualifier.  Meaning, it's going to be real tough to get to the tourney if you didn't qualify the previous year.  But that's the way I think it should be.  What does everyone else thing?

You bring up some quality ideas Lips except for the end...

No way you should be able to qualify for any round via rock-paper-scissors.   If the case arises where you have seven in the tourney it goes like these:

     - Finalists from last year automatically make the semis
     - 3rd-4th from last year make the qualifier
     - 3 Outside teams go 1 game round-robin, 0-2 team is out
     - All 1-1 results in top two total runs

It adds more games, but it would be done on another date or same day as qualifier without drinking.  This way either current or previous accomplishments get your into the qualifier...

Just wanted to let you guys know how much ass you kick.  Me and my buddies (MookieWilson is my roomate) are sophmores here at the University of Connecticut and we're avid viewers of your site.  We are hardcore RBI fans.  Hell we even got written up last semester by our RA because we were going so nuts while playing.  The drinking game is the perfect way to start any weekend!  As for my favorite team, it would have to be either Detroit or Boston(mostly because i'm a sox fan in real life and all they do in the game is hit homers).  Well, we'll definetly be posting constantly so just wanted to let you know that you rock and RBI rocks.

Let me get this straight, because throwing in the idea of "semis" threw me off.  When you said semis, I took that as making it to the championship tourney, round one.  If that's the case, then you're basically saying the same thing as me except that the bottom three teams play a total of three games to determine the worst team instead of a one-game elimination game post rock-paper-scissors.  I like that idea too, I just didn't suggest it because it would probably mean that we would have to have a qualifier for the qualifier, do you know what I mean?  I guess we could work it so the three square off on a Friday night, with one getting eliminated.  Followed by a Saturday of Death for the qualifier.  I definitely think the qualifier should be Death as the guys playing are qualifying for the Death Championship.  I even think the qualifier for the qualifier (on Friday) should be the same way, just because drinking is such a big part of the championship...

Welcome man!  Please keep on coming, that's what this forum is for.  It's about time RBI'ers had their own place...

Getting written up by the RA for RBI is pretty solid.  I'm sure we would have gotten a few of those, but we invented the drinking game the year after we moved out of the dorms...

Lips:

Yeah, that's what I meant by semis and it is the same except for the 3 player round-robin.  I just put it in a chart to simply things...

And I do think it can all be done on the same day.  Sub the "qualifier for the qualifier" and you have the three games that are usually used for the finals.  This is good too because the lowest people have to prove themselves the most, and three more games of drinking is a good way...

Obviously, the qualifier would be a week or two before the actual tourney (aka semis), but I like this system...

Lips

Yeah, I think this system will work too.  The question now is, will Jason, Nick, and Jae all want to join the fun?
RBI isn't just a game, it's a lifestyle...

Gantry

I don't know, but there's no way I'm giving them a shot this year....

The problem with Jae and Nick is that they really suck.  Combine that with Jae's notoriously low tolerance, and I don't see how he'd ever make it to the actual tourney.  Nick I can see because he owns the game, while Jae doesn't and only plays sparingly...

Also, getting all 7 around at one time may be tough.  Jason and Jae seem to be out of state a lot, though that may change soon...

Been short-term solution is a tourney a few months after the championships.  Lets see what they're made of...

Hey, guys. I'm a big fan of your site and an addict of RBI Baseball.  The drinking game definitely kicks ass, just don't do it while your RA is studying for finals.  He will not be pleased.  anyway, we found another glitch yesterday while playing.  I was pitching against my friend Ryan in the top of the 8th in a one run game.  Ryan had runners on first and second with one out. Then he hit a long pop fly to left field.  While i was going back on the ball, it randomly called Ryan's man out before the ball was even coming down. It was awesome.  Then i got the next guy out on a grounder and ended up scoring 4 times in the bottom of the eighth as I  went on to an easy victory.  Hardcore glitches rule!!

The fly-ball out, very interesting.  Probably similar to the grand-slam out but I'm pretty sure those landed...

Will add that glitch to the site later on today...
