I agree totally with the "qualifier of the qualifier"  it's a good "eliminator" of the shittiest player and the 3rd and 4th place people should have to prove themselves for the next year.  Who knows, some rookie may be moving up the ladder.  BUT, I think that we should do it starting this year.  If Choi sucks (or whoever) that person doesn't qualify.  It's that simple.  This would involve an added dimension to the tourney making it more competitive and thus a good thing.  Therefore we should implement (spelling?) this for this year.  Because as long as I can follow a fly ball while drunk...it's ALL OVER FOR YOU!

Hey! I was on the yahoo rbi group and changed to this one. I too am a yankee hater and die hard cub fan, but since there isn't a cubs team I usually play with Boston and St. Louis (to let the other guy have a chance).  I have a cable hookup and am willing to do any kind of tourney. I'll check back to see the news. Great Site and Forum.

Been playing R.B.I. since the beginning, we have 3 belts, Tengen Belt, Atari Belt, and a very large R.B.I. Belt for the overall champion. Something to motivate us to play, I'm glad others are doing the same.

Gantry

Funny you should mention belts, as we just bought a novelty belt at the local Toys R' Us over the weekend for this years championship.  It's coming up in April...

Three belts is impressive, we are most jealous of Dennis Kim's engraved beer stein:

Now that's motivation!!!

We bought our belts at Big 5 sporting goods, 2 medium sized brown weight belts, and a large black one. Then decorated them Tengen and Atari have all the teams on them, the big black one for the R.B.I. champion we put a big white ball and in the lettering R.B.I. is the red, white, and blue just like on the box cover. they look pretty nice.

That sounds pretty sweet...

If you have the ability, send me a digital pic and I'll put them on the website....

Jason, I look forward to your challenge of becoming a future RBI champ, but I agree with Gantry.  I think you should have to wait a year.  First, you'll have to get your tolerance up, plain and simple.  I don't want to see someone at a 2-2 record heading into the final round to face you while you are 3 beers past your limit, possibly even passing out or just fucking the legitimacy of the tourney.  And second, it wouldn't be fair to Potsie and I to be forced into a qualifier tourney that we knew nothing about at the time of last year's championship.  This way, going into the 2K2 championship...all four of us (Gantry, Mark, Pots, and I) will know what the repercussions are.  Losing is one thing, but knowing that you're going to have to prove your worth the following year is another.

As a side note, I'm up for playing a tourney in February.  Let us know of a date, and we'll try to set it up with Nick and Choi too.  The thing is, the only way you're going to get better is to play more.  You have to remember that we have been playing "Death" for about four years now.  Give it time, and we'll accept you as a worthy adversary.

I'm not the best with computers, but I have a scanner and might be able to send some pictures of the belts, that would be sweet if you posted them.

Lips-  If you want to wait until next year for expansion that's fine...whatever.  However, your reasoning for doing it that way sucks.  You said to wait until next year so now the people know the repercusions of losing.  Umm, hello...unless your name is Shoelace Joe or part of some ruthless RBI scandal, I don't think that you were trying to lose.  You and Potsie just lost and let's face it you were trying to win.  Correct?  But that's fine we'll wait but I'm coming over on Sunday...actually I have to go to the bank on Saturday so I'll be back early Saturday morning.  I'm coming over and I want a piece of YOU!  You can be my 4th victim in a row.

Without doing too much work, you might just want to reference rbibaseball.com's site.  Here's the url and the image:

http://www.rbibaseball.com/images/player-dt.gif

So, goto your profile page, by clicking on "Profile" atop all the Forum pages.  On the Profile page, you'll see a section entitled, "I have my own pic".  Click on the checkbox and enter in the URL from above, and then you should be set.

Jason--

The whole point is...Potsie and I shouldn't be penalized more off than anyone else.  Let me give you a small analogy that somewhat fits the bill...

When Gantry and I COMPLETED the first Fantasy Wrestling championships, we decided that the winner would get the first pick for the following year.  But since we didn't decide on that prior to the championship, Gantry (the winner of the first championships) didn't automatically get the first pick in the second annual draft -- we rock-paper-scissored for it, EXACTLY like we did for the first draft.

Basically, a qualifier for this year isn't right, but next year it would be fine since we all know the rules going in.

Peace...

Hi, I'm Skups.  I am usually forced to watch these FREAKS play RBI from time to time, or should I say, ALL THE TIME.  But it's cool.  Okay, that's all I have to say today...

Talk to you later!

Hell of a game....

I, as well as the roommates, want to express my disgust with Adam Vinatieri not winning the MVP.  We are huge fantasy football fans, and Lipitz has had Vinatieri (known as the V-Man) every single year since his rookie year.  He had the greatest kicking performance in Super Bowl history, yet Tom Brady wins it.  I thought Brady played well, but MVP??  Absolutely not...

Either way, congrats to V-Man and the Patriots!

It's all about family friends, don't you know?  V-Man, congrats on the Super Bowl victory...  And to all my friends, hands off the V-Man next year.  He's all mine, again.  Dee-Nee!!
